You get "points" if you don't get your preferred role. I'm not sure if getting your secondary role counts towards this, or just the other 3 roles you didn't pick.
As you gain points, you are moved up in priority so you are more likely to get the role you want.
It's possible that either;
- Secondary roles count as your preferred one, meaning your "points" reset when you got it
- Other people have more "points" than you and took priority, both your roles are popular ones after all
So basically i have to play a lot of games with a role i dont want to play until i can play one game of my desired role? This sounds like the worst matchmaking i have ever seen in a game. I'd rather wait 5 more minutes in queue to get a role i want play.
Well looks like i wasted my favor on Ratatoskr since i cant play him lmao
Not necessarily. You might get the role several times in a row.
But this is a popular role. Even if this mechanic wasn't a thing, you'd have the same issue; multiple people in the team want the same role.
Well if too many people queue up for Jungle then it would make 1 million times more sense to have longer wait time. It could tell me estimated wait time based on the role i choose. I will have to wait more to get game but at least i will know that i will get a game with the role i want to try. Like this matchmaking makes absolutely no sense at all...
Wait time would actually make it worse, since the people currently in games, will have more time to finish those games and rejoin the queue with all the other people wanting the role.
If you have different wait times for different roles, you make it needlessly complicated, and potentially cause massive wait times since far less people will prefer support for example (which means no game can start until a Support is found).
The goal of Smite's MM - to my knowledge - is to prefer shorter queue times, whilst still providing decent quality matches to players.
