how can you learn to play new gods..
Trying to learn how to play a god in Co-op is pointless... as using just a bit of intelligence (not much) you can manage to easily get 15+ kills with just about any god.. The AI sucks at giving you the feeling of a real game,, the jungler doesn't even jungle..

Trying to play Arena is alright, but being bad, or having a bad build means you get toxic players..

Trying to play conquest is even worse.. people will belittle, bemuse and generally not be nice if it's your fault the team is losing.. Even if you tell them you're trying a new God Pregame and they said that's ok..

Assault suffers from the same issues as Arena as sure it gives you a random god choice but as long as you build certain ways you're going to do well.. so long as you have half a brain..

So how do you learn how to play new gods.. I've got my set of about 4 or 5 gods I can play moderately decently, but anytime I try out a new God, I tend to get wrecked while trying to learn their kids, let alone finding a build that can work..

Coop and vs AI is ok for learning the skillset and items. But you'd be better off doing that in Jungle Practice anyway (especially if you have a friend join you for a 1v1 test).

Other practice modes is ok to get an idea of what the objective of the game is (i.e. kill towers and Titan), and gives the newest players somewhere to try things out.

For anyone who's played for more than 5 minutes, it's probably better to go into Arena. Just mute other players if they have a problem with you being new. Also worth saying at the start that you are new, or never played X god before.

Best way to learn if you want to avoid toxicity though, is to have a 1+ friends join you. At least then they'll know you are new to the mode/game/god and are more likely to give pointers than to scream at you.
Also worth watching streamers etc to get an idea of the KINDS of items to build (i.e. should you build attack speed and crit, more protections, more penetration with no crit etc). As long as you can understand why they are doing it, it's a good way to learn how to build for a god you are new to.

The best way to try out new gods is to go to jungle practice; everything that you need is presented there: infinite gold, infinite mana, every objective, bots to play against, reduced cooldowns, you can control your level, etc. Get a general sense of how your god plays, landing abilities, valuable items, and other tricks.

Afterwards, go to Arena to get experience against real players. Yes you will do poorly at first, but you can substantially reduce your poor performance by going to jungle practice beforehand.

AI matches and COOP are a waste of time if you are learning a character.

I would recommend watching a few guides (videos) so you know what the Classes are and where they go on Conquest. Also probably play defensively and FARM if you are new.
I see too many "new players" who are way too agressive, feed and don't communicate.

There are a bunch of basic skills you can learn while watching guides or streamers.
Such as how classes work and where they generally go, a good example of items to build, skill rotations and how to do basic (jungle) rotations. (DukeSloth and Mast have a lot of good guides)

Others skills such as Blocking player movement, Dodging or Juking AA's/Skill shots, effective Farming and Item Building, not overextending and Feeding and when to Engage are all skills learned by playing different Gods and playing against other Gods.

If you're a player that truly wants to learn, become better and communicate well...
...You should ignore toxic people and do this:

Play, play, play. Just do it.

Practice makes Perfect.

Also don't underestimate Jungle Practice. It's awesome to try out Item Builds and see how much damage they do compared to different targets.

No, this is awful advice. Arena *isn't* practice. One team can actually win the round so screwing around with a new god you have no idea about is stupid. You are literally wasting 4 other people's time plus contributing to the other team's win by playing a god that you're trying to practice with. Hey, you can do that in Conquest too. They have a Normal mode as well. Go stink up their Normal game as it is no different than Normal Arena.

I should have been more clear, my bad.

Arena is good for a first PvP game with a god. But yes, very first time probably isn't the best, UNLESS you have played a long time (as in several dozen levels of experience), since you'll likely pick up the gods quickly (or if you've watched videos and read what each ability does). I suppose that's more dependant on the player though.

The reason I suggest Arena is because thereis FAR less going on than Conquest. Still less going on than Clash and Joust. And Assault is random picks.
If you are very new, AI is ok for a short time, but it very quickly becomes pointless playing against bots, another reason I suggested Arena.

Arena is the best for giving you a chance to learn to use a god's abilities to their fullest extent. However, no game mode involving bots is particularly ideal for learning to play *against* people. You can learn the principles involved in playing as a particular god, but applying those principles is up to you, and *that's* what you gotta do in the field.

yeap, jungle practise is the way to go to learn new gods. you look at their kits, test them out and see what they can do and also test different builds. of course nothing can make you learn better than real combat but still it's the second best thing to do before you actualy move to a real match.

as for arena do not do it. arena is a constant 5v5 where 1 mistake can cost you your death. if after jungle practise you want to test in real match then clash is probably the way to go. it still has the constant 5v5 but with a lot more freedome.

co-op is useless for anything dont play it at all

jungle practice is best to get a first look at their kits and how they work

real gamemodes shouldnt matter too much and you should probably worry about the matchmaking more, no matter what gamemode you play its going to be the same

look up videos and guides if you're looking to try a specific god, real useful
