Other practice modes is ok to get an idea of what the objective of the game is (i.e. kill towers and Titan), and gives the newest players somewhere to try things out.
For anyone who's played for more than 5 minutes, it's probably better to go into Arena. Just mute other players if they have a problem with you being new. Also worth saying at the start that you are new, or never played X god before.
Best way to learn if you want to avoid toxicity though, is to have a 1+ friends join you. At least then they'll know you are new to the mode/game/god and are more likely to give pointers than to scream at you.
Also worth watching streamers etc to get an idea of the KINDS of items to build (i.e. should you build attack speed and crit, more protections, more penetration with no crit etc). As long as you can understand why they are doing it, it's a good way to learn how to build for a god you are new to.
Afterwards, go to Arena to get experience against real players. Yes you will do poorly at first, but you can substantially reduce your poor performance by going to jungle practice beforehand.
AI matches and COOP are a waste of time if you are learning a character.
I see too many "new players" who are way too agressive, feed and don't communicate.
There are a bunch of basic skills you can learn while watching guides or streamers.
Such as how classes work and where they generally go, a good example of items to build, skill rotations and how to do basic (jungle) rotations. (DukeSloth and Mast have a lot of good guides)
Others skills such as Blocking player movement, Dodging or Juking AA's/Skill shots, effective Farming and Item Building, not overextending and Feeding and when to Engage are all skills learned by playing different Gods and playing against other Gods.
If you're a player that truly wants to learn, become better and communicate well...
...You should ignore toxic people and do this:
Practice makes Perfect.
Also don't underestimate Jungle Practice. It's awesome to try out Item Builds and see how much damage they do compared to different targets.
I should have been more clear, my bad.
Arena is good for a first PvP game with a god. But yes, very first time probably isn't the best, UNLESS you have played a long time (as in several dozen levels of experience), since you'll likely pick up the gods quickly (or if you've watched videos and read what each ability does). I suppose that's more dependant on the player though.
The reason I suggest Arena is because thereis FAR less going on than Conquest. Still less going on than Clash and Joust. And Assault is random picks.
If you are very new, AI is ok for a short time, but it very quickly becomes pointless playing against bots, another reason I suggested Arena.
as for arena do not do it. arena is a constant 5v5 where 1 mistake can cost you your death. if after jungle practise you want to test in real match then clash is probably the way to go. it still has the constant 5v5 but with a lot more freedome.
jungle practice is best to get a first look at their kits and how they work
real gamemodes shouldnt matter too much and you should probably worry about the matchmaking more, no matter what gamemode you play its going to be the same
look up videos and guides if you're looking to try a specific god, real useful
