Is this game getting more popular than LoL?
Is this game getting more popular than LoL?

I play the game since release and it seems like the popularity of this game is rather growing and growing, which is amazing.

Anything on that ?

I think the average for Europe was about 2 minutes and I remember NA players saying the same thing. Then there was the rest of the world who pretty much never got a queue.

I'm in the EU, and I had a lot of 20 second queues. But those were likely due to me being matched with people who had been waiting a while, so rarely good quality ones. Now, in my experience, the quality seems to have improved overall.

On average, it was probably closer to 2 minutes waiting time.

there are only two bigger mobas, dota and lol, that are pretty much considered as makers of the genre, rest is niche but smite is easily on the third place when it comes to playerbase.

Just because it's 3rd place doesn't mean the player base numbers aren't lacking/low.

Generally speaking, the MOBA genre has a larger online playerbase than other games that have online features, such as sports games or shooters. The only exception MIGHT be Battle royale games.

bigger playerbase doesnt mean better game, cheap mobile games have largest online playerbase, clickers etc also LoL has its problems too, it was best few years after beta with original devs, later for me as the playerbase started to grow, it turned into farce. specifically when the chinese company, tencent, bought it out. most of the new characters are pretentious and overcomplicated, while they rework old broken mechanics they release characters with the same broken mechanics they reworked i guess that was the original plan, not to fix or balance it only to make more money on the same broken thing twice lol. Illaoi is pretty much the only new character i like. i doubt if smite community really appreciated as big playerbase as LoL, because that means generally that the game had to be repeatedly downgraded in quality to aim for these numbers. best things are always for elite, worst for masses.

Generally, if a game in a genre has a large playerbase compared to another in a genre, then usually that game is better received by the public. ALL MOBAs are going through a decline with players leaving their respective game. DOTA, the leading MOBA has also experienced a stark decline. I am not surprised that LOL is going through the same tumultuous period.

However, throughout this period of a genre-wide decline, SMITE continues to trail behind DOTA and LOL. Keep in mind that SMITE has branched out to consoles and STILL falls behind DOTA and LOL. As someone who played SMITE since S3, I can attest that SMITE has absolutely plummeted in quality in nearly every category: user interface, map design, matchmaking, game balance, removing skill, abusing loot box system, etc.

DOTA has also received scrutiny for appealing to noobs, but what sets SMITE apart from DOTA, is that DOTA continues to improve its user interface and add features that streamlines the experience for players, whereas SMITE continues to confound players by removing existing features and adding new features that take away from the player experience.

smite is shrinking, not growing.

interface could be better but they revamped recently the quest tab, main menu to be more clear and pretty much fixed the bugs that would cause profile description not loading, outside of the chat bug that rarely still occurs. i cant possibly see how smite can grow as big as dota or lol, it would have to offer something more than pretty graphics, like destroyable terrain for example, real combo system known from hack n slash games or jumping attacking etc... and there is another thing when you compete with these games, the whole concept of 'isometric view' vs third person, people who would potentially enjoy smite would never give it a try because of the third person view alone, which is a big loss, so ppl who are used to these type of action games on consoles are pretty much better target? im personally into mmos such as world of warcraft, dark ages of camelot etc so getting into smite was easy for me but im generally gaming enthusiast i played the crap out of w3 or any rts of the old times. rts generally are considered niche genre, grand strategy games are more popular these days, and moba is just simplification of rts. even though as mostly pc gamer i still prefer rts view over tps, but i also like mythology and some iconic rts games were based on mythology too, so i enjoy smite.

It COULD have been as big as LoL or Dota are, but that 'if' scenario would require a good developer. Hi-Rez has ONLY just now gotten to the point where they're releasing actually balanced, not-game-breaking gods that don't (literally) screw everyone over with bugs and crashes. They've been going for over five years now. Not only that, but as developers they care very little about their players and that's obvious from ho long it takes them to fix bugs, issues and gods in-game, and how often they essentially force you to buy anything you want for way more than it's worth. When look boxes became illegal in parts of the EU, their argument was 'meh, murica', even though they kno they could get sued. So what did they do? Make skins three times as more as what they were in the actual chest. So a skin that was worth 40 months ago now goes on 'sale' for 1k gems.

TLDR: If they sell to a better dev.

Only thing keeping LOL alive is Asian community LOL is a big pile of outdated software! trying to compare LOL with smite Is trying to compare gta 1 to gta 5! All LOL is Is a point and click game. No one can ever go from Smite to LOL the graphics alone will deter anyone with a half a brain!
