The problem is that if a person minimize the game and forget to select the character, that is no reason to ban 30 minutes. Because the system has to quickly find a single person for the current queue.
And this is in standart normal game, not ranked. Against trolling exit in selecting champions must be a summarize restrictions(5-10-15-20...etc). I got just 30 minutes. I have never seen such problems in any MOBA.
I can understand people leaving champ select and its a ♥♥♥♥ move but leaving the match is even worse because u waste peoples time even more so i would agree a 15 min bann for leaving select and 30 min bann for leavin the game but i could miss something here :x
Leaving the game doesn't necessarily make it a bad one though. I've had decent matchups when it's 4v5 on both ends. Sure it's a pain, but at least the other 9 people get to play the game anyway. Sometimes you'll get the enemy team (who have 5 people) go a little easier earlier on to let them catch up a little (say it was the support who was missing, or the 5th person came back and was too far behind).
Point is, if someone leaves during lobby, the game never happens, there is no chance of getting into it, you have to requeue which for some people could take an hour or more.
If someone leaves during the game, it varies. If they leave at the start, there is a chance they come back (maybe they dc'd on loading and restart Smite to get back in). If they leave at the start and don't come back, then high penalty is ok. But if they leave just before the end (i.e. a few minutes before end, whether they won or lost), then a harsher penalty would be too harsh as they were there for the majority of the game.
Not clicking the Accept button from queue starts with a 2 minute penalty, because sometimes stuff happens and you just weren't paying attention, so that can be a short penalty. But where skipping out can be abused to harass other players, the 30 minute penalty is a requirement. Either pay attention and do what you need to do and play the game, or go find something else to do other than Smite.
