Edit. Also Rotation as a Supp is great for CC controling or just setting up a great team combo
So if you're clearing wave faster than the enemy, and you invade the enemy's jungle camps, your Mid might come help try to clear their Red for instance, you can easily rotate back to middle lane with your Mid to gank the enemy Mid, or just to help clear wave and harpies or oracles. If you haven't gotten your own Red and Purple buffs, you obviously want to help your ADC still with doing that, but once that is done, you'll want to rotate from Duo whenever the enemy minions are going down faster and your minions will be pushing Duo back... This will help provide extra pressure on middle lane to help get the tower down, help Mid farm the jungle camps faster, and help free up your Jungler to rotate to Solo (you can also rotate to Solo, etc.)
If, on the other hand, your Duo is getting outcleared, they will probably be trying to do what I mentioned above. So your job is to call out on VGS when the Support leaves long lane without the ADC and try to follow them to middle lane if you can safely leave your ADC (counter-rotate). Obviously don't leave your ADC to die if the enemy ADC is pushing hard on them and not leaving lane for that reason, but try to keep tabs on the enemy Support so if they disappear, try to go to middle lane also to balance their rotation out.
Either way, by level 10 at the latest, you'll probably be spending most of your time in the middle lane and rotating to long lane or short lane to either gank or help clear wave or try to push down a tower. You'll also want to have enough wards out to keep track of what the enemy team is doing so you know when to go for objectives or contest them going for objectives.
