And nothing wrong with an Assassin-type Mage: Assassin playstyle, but now with Magical damage!
And unless this got patched, I don't play against him that often, you can beads out of his ult.
He's basically a magical Loki with less damage, sure. Can be annoying, but against to people if they aren't bad. They will stun him or kill him outright.
>no hes not op people just bad hes counterable hes like loki
>hunters will take him down easily
(as if this game has god that hunters couldn't take down)
>if people aren't bad they will stun him or kill him outright
(a great argument that could be applied to every single god in game)
>his play style is a lot like Loki's
>implying nothing can stop hunters at all
>forgetting that unlike every single god in the game, Ao can really only do a 1v1
Grouped up teams rape the dragon.
His stealth can actually be broken by ANY damage to him while he is invisible, so it is even easier to handle his stealth than Loki's; AoE damaging abilities are the easiest way to screw up his approach, but learning from practice the preferred routes an Ao Kuang (or Loki) will take can make it work with just basics even.
His Ult can be countered by using Beads to negate the CC or by using Meditation to increase your health above his execute threshold right before he uses his Ult.
The bigger issue with dealing with him is his high burst damage, which was nerfed for this new patch by changing how his abilities work with Polynomicon (a staple item for Ao Kuang for huge burst up to now), so we'll have to see how that effects his performance; but generally you get anti-magic-burst items like Bancroft's Talon (magical low health buff) or Asi (physical low health buff) or Bulwark of Hope (low health shield) or Ancile (silence aura, great counter to Ao Kuang) or Stone of Fal (burst damage mitigation) or Magic Shell or Aegis. There's also Silverbranch Bow or Runic Shield to reduce his magical power with a debuff so his burst is lowered.
The biggest thing though is positioning: try to keep track of where he is at all times and if he's not in your line of sight and you don't know from the mini-map or something that he's busy somewhere else on the map, then play cautiously and don't overextend. Stick with your teammates, especially tanks with CC who can keep him from comboing you down as quickly.
Basically there are lots of ways to deal with him, but a lot of them require a bit more coordination with the team, especially for tanks to recognize they need to help keep track of him and protect their carries from his burst damage.
