I've only seen Bots act like you described in very low powerscore matches.... Like between 1500 and 2000 power score matches.
If you drive into the weapons of players they can kill you too. Sure players can be a bigger threat, but as I said above... players can be equally stupid and more of a detriment to a team than bots. That is just the nature of players.
The bot AI is offset by having access to significantly more powerful weapons and modules then the average player. Truthfully, all that really needs to happen is that the bot vehicle library needs to be expanded and certain restrictions removed.
Basically, have the PvE purple bots be in PvP battles.
Bot behaviour is largely dictated by the weapons they have mounted. At lower power scores, the list of weapons they have access to is extremely limited. This forces a lot of them to adopt the agressive close-in fighting behaviours.
Ramming, rushing, and brawling are basically the only AI options they get.
At higher power scores you'll see a wider diversity of bot behaviour. And though they will still be suicidal and or stupid... they are not weak or worthless.
The Bots are added to groups to help fill out the roster. Which means if you are encountering Bots in PvP - then you do NEED them... because there are not enough Players to have a full Player Verses Player match.
Removing the bots would mean that the match making 'brackets' would need to be expanded to encompass more players - which further eschews the Power Score Balance or sit and wait until there are enough players to fill the game - which already can be some what lengthy.
I would rather play the game then stare at a Timer.
