Like is there parts where your getting chased by any of them? Like in Journey ( ya i know different game) had sandworms things.
However being a fan of Journey, i had to get this. And only twice did i actually get nervous. But the surrounding marine mammals really draw you in, taking away that fear. I was literally in awe the entire time i completely forgot about the whole deep abyss thing.
I would recommend you give it a shot. Some parts are quite dark and scary looking, but the game tends to make you turn your attention to other things. There's some amazing scene's in this game that really helped me forget about my fear.
I'm sure it varies from person to person but it was fine for me.
It really depends on how bad your phobia is. I feel very uneasy in large bodies of water. The thought of swimming on open sea scares the crap out of me.
At the same time, I find sea life fascinating. This game is very much in that spirit - praising the life under the sea. There are no hostile encounters at all. Everything is very much positive.
That said, there are moments where you swim in huge bodies of water, with nothing around you at all. There are moments where you encounter gigantic types of fish. There are moments where you swim down into the empty sea. While all of these are non-hostile experiences, they are in open water.
If you are like me, where you feel "uneasy" in open water, but find sea life amazing, you should be fine. If your phobia is very serious though, you might not feel great in certain parts of the game.
I had a friend drop by who's terrified of the ocean to watch me play on Saturday and he did have an initial moment of fear diring one section (the whales diving as the camera pulls back). But he just did his calming exercise and less than 30 seconds later, he was back to normal and even replayed two of the maps I'd completed with no issues at all.
Really, the entire game is well lit (almost wish some parts were darker) and you can always see what is around you. If not colors but shapes.
The game is really not made to scare you. Unlike Jounrey that had a few scary moments.
