Just because you like newer style games doesn't mean you can't like old games too. I love both and I really enjoy every Fallout game, from the original to New Vegas. Now maybe what you were trying to say is if you like the newer Fallout games, it won't mean you will like the older ones. Because they are really different, however I find both fun.

It is by far my all time favourite game.

One of the best rpg games along with Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, IcewindDale and Temple of Elemental Evil.

It's unmaintained, so beware what you spend your money for. You're going to configure (compatibility options, etc.) and patch (high resolution support, unofficial patch) the game manually. No single-click-to-play experience, almost for certain.

As for the game itself - it's great game with lots of fun to do. Totally worth it.

i would say buy it im curintly on fallout 1 and 3 and im enjoying the game so much yes its a turn base game trust me i had my thoughts about it but trying it out i enjoyed it so much so yes get it

I'd say get it. I got it for £3.99. And these old Fallout games are great. But it's all on opinion. :)
