With. It fixes a ton of bugs and adds more content. The kicker is that all the new content is "in the spirit" of the original. It also enables the "good" endings for the various cities that were bugged before

Gotta agree with the above post.

It adds hours of additional playtime, but I can't help but feel a certain feel is lost when everything is fixed up.

And it's a bit jarring when it comes to talking, since whoever wrote the dialogue for the PR mod is extremely verbose compared to the original fallout writing style, but I suspect it is done because the original creators had a hard limit dictated by the space on a CD, and PR simply doesn't, allowing more colorful writing.

But all in all it's great, and unless you want to experience what I went through back in the day, you should get it.

If I understand correctly you installed the restoration project and then tried to play with old save files?

In that case no.

After installing the mod you need to start a new game.

Definitely go with RP. It's amazing.

Without. Restored content is pretty much entirely fan made thus may not represent what the developers intended, plus sometimes things are cut for a reason. Experience the vanilla game first, how the devs released it, before modding/altering the content.

Basically take a look at both sides, nothing wrong with mods but I feel it's a tad weird for most people to recommend a heavily modified, fan altered version of a game over how it was originally released as a first time experience (this thread isn't the first 'with/without')
edit:hell, I've seen posts claiming that the RP is the only way to fix bugs/issues and is essential to playing FO2... depressing.

Sure, mods/fan patches can enhance the original experience but they shouldn't be viewed as a replacement for the original game.

Vanilla first, add some chocolate sauce next time :)

If bugs are still causing gamebreaking problems then Killaps Unofficial Patch will fix these whilst keeping the game essentially 'vanilla'.

Can with Restoration Project use larger fonts?
With 1440x900 resolution and 14" laptop, the font size is extremely small.
And I want to use native resolution, not 640x800 or similiar resolution.

Do Your First Playthrough Without. Do it with the RP on the Second Time because it adds a ton of new stuff to enjoy an it's quite cool to see all the changes.

It's been a year since I played Fallout 2, last time was without resoration project, this year I'm thinking:
Restoration Project updated
Maps Updated
Talking head Actualy Talk ()THAT mod)
ECCo which rebalances, adds a load of stuff including crafting.
