Lockpick Skill or Lockpicks Item

Hello,

i'm not sure when picking locks, should I be using the lockpick skill (Hotkey 2) or should I be using the lockpicks i found (from the inventory)? Does it automatically combine skill and item when I got both and if so do I need to place it into the item slots?

I'm confused :)

Place it in your item slot and then use it (i.e click on the icon then click on the locked door/crate etc), using the lockpicks will also give a boost to your current lock pick skill (with lockpicks there is not really any point getting your lockpick skill above 50% IMO).

Edit: In case you haven't realised: if you fail picking a lock it doesn't necessarily mean you can't pick the lock, you just got a bad roll. You can keep trying until you get a good roll (hence why I said around 50% skill + lockpicks is all you really need), though if your skill is really low you have a higher chance of critical fail and jamming the door.

Pretty much this. Just don't forget you need to actually 'use' the lockpick.

I just want to put my $0.02. The lockpics increase your skill only for the regular locks, doors etc, they do not increase skill if you want to pick energy fields or any energy doors and before you say about electronic lockpick, it doesn't do that either (know bug).
