Fallout 2

Wow this game is dumb
So let me get this straight, if you didn't build a unarmed character with high constitution and strength, you can't get past the very first part of the game?

Seriously? I made my guy mainly luck and chariasma as I like to weasle my way out of situations, but the guy you have to fight to prove you're the "chosen" one just does 5 damage to me per hit, with my full hp of 28 health i go down in max 5 rounds

when I do actually hit him, I do 1-2 damage, and I can only perform 2 attacks per turn..

game is seriously dumb, and i'm not complaining about the difficulty, because this is NOT difficulty, this is just straight up forcing you to play a certain way

does he make you put away your stuff before the fight?

If not, try using the spear.

Yeah I tried just attacking him with the spear before engaging him and it made no difference, even though I put more skill in melee combat, he still takes me down in 5 rounds

Actually... they aren't forcing you into a single way. There are 3 ways to beat the Temple of Trials. I suggest thinking about it for a moment.
The door is locked. You cannot lockpick it, maybe there is something that would fit the lock?
Or, since you said you made your character to get out of situations, then you must have speech tagged, try talking to the guy before blindly hitting buttons.

Steal is your friend.
(You can steal the damn key from him.)

"I made my guy mainly luck and chariasma as I like to weasle my way out of situations"

oh but You can weasle your way out of the temple of trials, so the problem clearly lies withing the player not the game

You don't have to fight him. You can talk him out of it. I think you can even steal the key from him. Fallout 2 is great because so much can be done without fighting.

The Temple of Trials is a notoriously bad tutorial. I was put off by it at firsrt, but after beating it I noticed that it's really the only part like this in the game. If you don't have high unarmed or melee, just try to outrun them. If you really can't do it, there's a mod to skip the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tutorial.
…And the tutorial is included in the New Vision 1.2 mod, later integrated into MIB888 Megamod. I've read bad things about the latter, but if you, sosa, don't wish to fight Cameron, steal his key or convince him to avoid the fight.

Note that you need Speech to get it through to him.

Considering you think this game is dumb (more like the Temple of Trials is dumb!), you'll probably like the rest of it even more, maybe even Fallout 1!

i was just extremely frustrated, i played through fallout 1 but the fallout 2 tutorial is just such a bad experience

my first character had like 8 charisma but the speech didn't get unlocked so I rerolled with 10 charisma and i went through it just fine

Well, I got this game last month and I had a character built for being a sniper, not a tough melee guy, so I had trouble getting through the tutorial but at the end when you had to fight the guy, I was able to talk my way out of it and I only had a charisma of 3 so you don't have to beat him, you can simply talk your way out of the temple pretty easily.

I have a charisma of six and he can not be confronted peacefully.

Speech needed, too.

Why would the speech check be above 25?
ap Dec 23, 2015 @ 11:41am
nah i'm very familiar with old isometric rpgs, my favorite game is baldurs gate but even that, diablo 1 and 2, never winter nights, icewind dale, their tutorial was infinitely better than this garbage

To make the pass easier, a greater Speech skill fares better if at high percentages. However, you'll only need a maximum of about 100% in all skills that aren't for combat as those can be raised for purposes of more likely ~80% chance to hit.
