Lara wants to know what is being guarded in the church

Hi. I'm do the quest for Lara in Den, trying to find out what is in the church that is guarded by Tyler. I successfully talk my way inside, but as soon as I open the door, the guards inside still attack me. I have tried Reloading older saves, leaving the Den and coming back, but nothing seems to be helping. I am way to weak to beat all the guards so any suggestions would be very welcome.

Sounds like a bug. This quest has no relevance to the ending or the rest of the game. Move on.

Use sneak and interact with the crates.

Make sure you're using the Fallout 2 Restoration Project, which includes the unofficial patch. No one should be playing Fallout 2 without this.

I'm playing whatever is installed with Steam, and it works just fine. Didn't even run into the issue OP did.

That’s typically how most bugs work. Not everyone gets them and sometimes they get the some really bad ones. I’ve never gotten the hostile NCR bug but it sounds annoying as hell.
