"you missed" "Ant Missed" - it's going to be hard
My first fallout was 3, and I loved it back in 2009, then Fallout NV in 2010. Loved both with over 1000 hours. Then Skyrim in 2011, with 1500 hours, then F4 in 2015, same 1000 hours. The graphic and the Ui turned me off getting F2 for a long time. Now I am in the trail, I can see this game is going to be a slog for awhile at least. But I will persevere for a few hours at least. I think I can stomach up to 10 before giving up on any game. I either like it by then, or its done.

swing and move, you do not have to get hit once in the Temple of Trials
you can find a pistol and companion in the 2nd town

Press ESC, Click on Preference, drag 'Combat Speed' slider all the way to the right, then check 'Affect Player Speed'.
that too

i dont understand swing and move. just trying to understand the point and click with mouse. It's been 30 years since I placed a PC game like this, in the 90s I was mostly stuck on Civilization games. Loading them on the University computer from floppy disks through MS dos. Well that was back in 92-94. Yeah I am that old.

If you're that old school, then I'd imagine reading a manual wouldn't sound like an alien-ish concept for you. I'd suggest you to read the manual and look for exact information you need.

The game comes with an online manual, so there's hardly any excuse for you to NOT read it in the first place, especially if you're struggling to learn and don't really know what to know.

That is a good idea. I have not done that in years, however, even back in the day before the internet was a thing, I was mostly a fumble my way around kind of guy. But I will take a look,

maybe play fallout 1 first.
it´s way more beginner friendly.

that said, having no idea what you´re doing, 10 hours wont be nearly enough for fallout 1.
a full playthrough, doing every quest, dialog, stealing a low, going way overcap with money takes about 15-20 hours when you know what you´re doing.

new, i´d say you´ll end up somewhere in the hub with 10 hours.

however fallout 1 resolution wasnt improved, while 2 was.

fo1&2
vs
fo3+following
are completely different genres.
seriously, start with 1

If you're still having difficulties with Fallout 2, then I recommend googling "Resources The nearly ultimate Fallout 2 Guide". It's pretty comprehensive and has oodles of tips. I've been playing the old Fallouts on and off since 2000, and because it's been a long time since I last played I've found that guide really helpful. And he set out the guide with an actual contents tab, which is unbelievably useful!

What the first replier meant by "swing and move" is related to the Temple of Trials, for fighting the scorps and ants. Basically, wait for the critter to run towards you (they usually spot you when they are full APs of movement away). Then on your turn, when you're standing next to them, hit them and run away. Depending on how many APs your character has, you'll either get in one or two punches, or a punch and a kick. And I might be mis-remembering, but I think for the ants you need to run 3 hexes away so they can't hit back, and the scorps you need to run 4 hexes away. It does take ages to kill anything, but once you get through the Temple and out of Arroyo the game gets much more enjoyable.

Like someone else said, you might want to consider playing Fallout first. Fallout 2 is notoriously more difficult in the early game - although after the first couple of settlements, the difficulty evens out, thankfully. And the stories follow on from each other nicely, with plenty of references in the second game back to the first one. It tickles the member berries nicely!

Thanks I did get out of the trial. Now just killing a few plants in the Tribe. But yeah it's a slog so far. I will look up the guide. Also have to make notes as this game does not hold your hand on what you are supposed to do like recent Bethesda games.

it´s on steam.

still recommending 1 over 2, simply because with some common sense & gamer instincts you can crush 1 pretty easily. 2 on the other side will have gecko kiting and very likely random encounters that kick you in the nuts. also if you make the... ~25% mark of 2, 1 will be really easy. eventually unenjoyable easy.
endgame gear-wise both are pretty similar, while 1 offers that in a smaller package, thus you know what you building for in 2.
also 2 is a direct sequel, with reoccuring characters, jokes and references to the MC of 1.

in my opinion you only have things to lose when starting with 2, while only gaining a higher difficulty... and gecko kiting. (2 is the overall better game tho)
