Unofficial Or Restoration Patch?
I only have Fallout 1 on Steam, but I would like to get Fallout 2. I want to fix the game by applying an unofficial patch, but I noticed that there's two types of patches for Fallout 2. The unofficial one and a restoration one. Which is the best patch to use?

unofficial is just for bugs and resto has both bug fixes (unofficial) and cut content

So I should play the game with the restoration patch?

Let's be clear: almost all areas and practically all lore in the restoration patch is made and written by the mod team. I think only Den Residential area was actually in the game and just unfinished, everything else? From the ground up with just some developer notes. It's solid content, but it's fanmade and you can tell. Ask yourself this: do you mind playing an RPG with content mods on your first go?

I don't know. I'm thinking real hard of which one to play with. Do both of them remove the censorship?

By the way, Unofficial patch includes some mod called sfall QoL features. I thought it was supposed to be the vanilla experience? What does it do?

Technically sfall is shipping with Steam / GOG version of Fallout 2, so it might as well be a vanilla feature.

As for what does it do; it lets you use mousewheel to scroll, hold shift to highlight items on the ground, let the music keep playing when talking with someone, speeds up the game, etc. Open ddraw.ini file to see all the settings you can tweak.

What setting affects what in the ddraw.ini file? Like, what should I do to have the vanilla game speed as well as turning on or off the music when talking to NPCs?

I would probably recommend without RP and then go for restoration project on subsequent playthroughs.
Fallout 2 is really big compared to FO1, so you might as well pace yourself.
RP is there for you to explore some loose threads, and is a nice addition.

Locations and tasks restored by fans in the restoration clearly depart from the level of those that were orginally in the game. No, they are not some tragic, some are quite cool, but you can feel that the original creators were not behind their creation.

I recommend https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout2/mods/73

It does not help the writing, but it makes the new locations actually fit visually with the rest of wasteland.

The problem is that the mod is on Nexus, which doesn't let you download unless you have an account.

What patch should I download for Fallout 1 by the way?

Just make a throwaway account. Every time I forget my login and pass for Nexus I just make a new account with temp.mail

It should explain what all the settings do. Take your time and browse the options.

I did find the option to enable or disable music when talking to NPCs with animating heads, but now I'm wondering what and where the speed setting is.

Anyone got any tips for installing the RP on the Deck? I tried Googling it, but all the info is years old, and none of the instructions work any more. Reddit was useless, just a bunch of people squabbling about unrelated stuff and no solutions.
