Best ways to get money early game?

I'm trying to buy Vic, I have $340 but I can't find any place to get more money. I have more than enough to sell that will get me over a thousand easily, but no one has a thousand worth of coin, which doesn't surprise me. So I've gotten to a point where I just left The Den and tried finding Redding or New Reno, but obviously I don't know where they are, and I don't want to look it up, and I also don't have the weaponry yet to take on many things. So I am not sure what to do at this point.

I'm sure there are other ways but what has always worked for me was to just go straight to New Reno, and explore around it on the world map about 1-2 grid tiles way and just wait for the random encounters between the gang families. Now without picking a side in those fights, you are free to loot some of the bodies this serves 2 purposes gives access to some decent loot early on to sell in New Reno and gives you access to some pretty decent small guns early on. rinse and repeat till you feel you have enough gear or money to actually start the game. hope this helps a bit.

pick up everthing in Klamath and the Den, check shelves

clear the rat cave in Klamath

find Smiley quest in Klamath - you end up in a cave full of geckos and some loot

I usually kill the two vendors in the Den - Tubby and Flick - for a pile of guns and ammo and leather armor

Well if your playing a small guns character you can just murder flick and tubby grab the .44 magnum, take some drugs and murder the entire slaver establishment. It might still be easier to walk into one of the side rooms however and wait for the opponents to conga line themselves towards their death.

Vendors restock their inventory so if you want to sell you just gotta sell wait around for a day or 2 then sell again.

You can learn to skin Geckos and sell their hides in Klamath when you complete the rescue smiley quest. It's alot easier if you have Sulik with you however. There's also a few hundred dollars of free loot just laying around in the various parts of Klamath. You can also snag a free 10mm pistol in the rat caves.

On the subject of making money in F2 early: I went with a 10 luck + 100 gambling character this time. You can go to the craps tables and just hold the minimum bet buttons and generate infinite money.

Has freed me from the hassle of having to loot and sell things *and* I turned the luck into a whole critical build. It's been very fun.

I ended up killing Metzger and his gang at level 5 it was a pain in the ass but it's possible if you can get ahold of psycho and get the .44 magnum from the trader in the den forgot his name. (You can kill him and take everything)

Tubby and Flick, Flick is a little harder to find. Tubby usually has a desert eagle, 10mm pistol and ammo, drugs. Flick can have leather armor, shotgun, hunting rifle, 44 magnum, ammo for all. I always kill both and I'm set on weapons and ammo until I get to Vault City. Easiest way to get started.
