Power armor on companions
So basically, I raided Mariposa military base for loot and gear and now I have a normal spare standard Power armor. I was already in Navarro and treated myself to a Enclave Mk.1 advanced Power armor so this spare standard power armor Is basically a downgrade for me. I am thinking of either selling it or giving it to a companion. Is it worth it to give to companions? I completed almost all quests in Broken Hills so Marcus seems to be a strong contender however I´ve never seen him wear it so I don´t know if I can give it to him...
Any ideas?

You cannot give it to Marcus, he says it so himself if you ask him what kind of gear he can use. I gave my standard power armor to sulik and gave a sniper rifle + metal armor to vic and its been working out pretty decently

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, Sulik might be a great option, especially If i find and give him a super sledge paired with power armor
Vic has been the most dissapointing. I tried to give him in another save a Pancor jackhammer, a desert eagle and metal armor and even tinkered around with his combat settings but after starting a fight outside of NCR council hall, he fired like 3 bullets with desert eagle and then started running around for 3 turns just to get gunned down by NCR policemen across the other section of map. Any tips for vic? The closest thing I have to a sniper rifle is a laser rifle but I seriously doubt he can use that. and I dont have the desert eagle and metal armor anymore....

You can upgrade the T-51b in San Francisco wuth the Hubologists, and get a new set from the Brotherhood after the Navarro quest.

Giving them to your followers is always a good move since now, they will be more than capable to deal with the Enclave. Selling them is equally great, you can buy a lot more 2mm EC, big guns ammo or better weapons like a Gauss Rifle/Pistol or a Plasma Rifles.

Also, pro-tip, never give a Super Sledge to Sulik, unless you want to see him flying your ennemies for 2 miles. You can give him a Mega Power Fist, a Ripper or even submachine gun like a H&KG11e (if you give him that, always put him in Charge! mode and Burst Always, this way he will run up to the ennemies and unload his clip on them. Thus avoiding the whole burst shot while you are in the middle of his burst fire).

Have fun ;))

Thanks for the tips,
I already own a bozar so it's FMJ ammo all the way for me. A gauss pistol would be a great secondary, especially given the fact that it has really low AP cost per turn and the fact that bozar takes 6 AP + 2 AP to reload itself.
I have been travelling back and forth between San Francisco and NCR's shopkeepers looking for more FMJ ammo but it seems i have exhausted their stocks to the point where it's getting really rare for them to have it in stock so I absolutely do not mind saving some ammo for bozar.

A great way to both have use for your Big Guns skill and to save a lot of ammo for the Big Guns is to use Rocket Launchers with AP Rockets, this stuff just destroy Power Armors and heavily armored guys. Its AoE too, so you can touch and kill a lot of dudes in one rocket.

Remember that there is Red888 Gun store who sells tons of ammo too. Also the Toxic Caves.
There is a Gauss Pistol in the Mariposa Military base, you just have to dwelve deeper...

Vic is imo the best companion, but you need to give him a rifle with a scope until he levels up enough to use laser weapons

I sold my scoped rifle a while ago because i couldn´t use it (I had stupidly low accuracy with it).
I just got a HK P90C from a marauder, was dissapointed to find Vic could not use it :(

I was already in the lowest level in Mariposa. Tried fighting the mutant leader in the remains of vats but he was too strong so I headed back. I died at the first wave because even with power armor, I am struggling to deal with adult deathclaws in random encounters, let alone 2 of them + the Mutant leader. I later gave up trying to fight him and just left Mariposa.

I was also full on loot so I made a run into NCR where I turned the Ranger station's shelves into stashes for my loot and did some quests for the PMV Valdez tanker afterwards. Already stole the FOB from Navarro, got the Navigation computer parts from Vault 13 and cleared the second floor and rescued badger's girlfriend so the captain would talk to me.
I also chose the life giver as my next perk so I increased my max health quickly to 102.
I am going to grind more XP and therefore more Health and I am also considering using rocket launcher as my secondary like you have suggested because I do happen to have some if not plenty of rockets both AP and explosive laying around.
When it comes to NPCs I dropped Vic at NCR, gave him some combat armor I scored and a combat shotgun for now.
I am on my way to klamath to pick up Sulik and then on the way back Marcus but I have bad RNG because I am running into random encounters almost every few squares even with outdoors skill upgraded to 91%
I know you suggested against the idea of giving Sulik power armor + super sledge but I am going for it anyway.
Marcus will get some stimpaks and maybe some spare extra ammo for the minigun and that's my plan for now.
I am basically preparing for the endgame now.

It is always worth it to upgrade your companions armor. If for no other reason, power armor will make them stronger and they can carry more stuff. Also it does seem to make a difference in combat.

If you upgrade your game with the Fallout 2 restoration project you can get armor for Marcus at the store located outside of The Abbey. However you cant get the Abbey location without the restoration project. The store has Mutant Armor, I think it costs 3000 dollars. It is the only armor you can get for Marcus anywhere in the game, and again I do not think you can ever Marcus armor without the restoration project installed. It not only adds protection to the big guy but it looks cool when he wears it.
