Banned from Vault City
Hi all,

I think I've made an huge mistake, I had to retrieve some sort of item for the Gecko problem, so I went to the first Citizen and she like really disagreed on that and after talking a bit more with her she decided to ban me from the city. Like, I really can not enter the city anymore as the guards tell me 'get lost' and what not.
Now to make things even worse, I'm that kind of guy that overwrites the same slot over and over again, so only using one! (yep, now I learned from my mistake).

Now my question is, after searching on the web to see if there was any way to get back in the Vault City (clearly no way, except defeating the Enclave(?) I've read somewhere) is Vault City really crucial? Like do I have to enter this city to progress within the game and finally beat it? Or are there other ways to ''find vault 13''.
Thanks alot in advance!

Oh yikes! Just had to check the general discussion section to see what you meant. Apologies for creating two, I think I acccidently clicked twice on the ''create'' button. Deleted the previous one.

VC is not necessary, besides you can just shoot your way through if you want\have enough firepower.

or...

There are three ways to retrieve the GECK from Vault 13.

Tell Sheriff Dumont in NCR Downtown that you're looking for "honest work." He will refer you to Westin (the entrance to his ranch is just to the west of the Sheriff). The referral from the Sheriff (must pass a Karma check) will get the guard to open the gate. Take the quest to investigate raids on the brahmin; if you have a 100% Outdoorsman skill, you can track the perpetrators (talking deathclaws) back to Vault 13.

Note that a possible bug prevents this route.

Talking to Saltbeef Bob (in the Westin Ranch compound) and giving him a drink of alcohol will get him to tell his yarn. This reveals that a doctor in Shady Sands (NCR) stole his map to Vault 13. After you have the doctor heal you, you can ask him questions. Confronting the doctor gives an option to buy his Velvet Elvis painting for $10,000, which unknowingly to the doctor, contains the hidden map.

Alternatively, take Tandi's quest to clear/negotiate with the squatters in Vault 15, kill or leave Darion (based on which quest will be done) on Level 3. Opposite from his room is the computer room. One of the computers has information on Vault 13, although it requires a decent Science skill (at least 65). At the Vault, you have to either negotiate with or dispose of the inhabitants, which will require the Vault-Tec computer voice module, which can be obtained from Eldridge in New Reno Arms, or Vault 8 (in Vault City).

Or, much simpler, just get to the Enclave Oil Rig. It can be found in the floor trap room, in the "safe room" all the way to the right. You'll miss a lot of XP by picking this route, but the deathclaws are kept alive.

Vault City is mainly for helpful things, like the XP, Citizenship, and ability to buy things there... and Vault 8 itself is a haven once you get in there. The city of tight rear ends is alright, if a little harsh, if you are patient enough to keep your weapons holstered without going postal. Oh and Thomas Moore!

At least you can pick up Cassidy in the Noble Spittoon!

Many, many and many thanks guys! I think about trying the other ways of retrieving the GECK but surely I do wanna see how that Vault looks like! Perhaps just create a new character to see how it looks like! Once again, thanks again! :D

...Or you can cheat and use a save editor to reset the "Are you banished from Vault City?" variable(s).

Global variable 79 controls your status in VC, if it's 6 you're not allowed in there anymore. Try setting it to 0.
