Fallout 2

Fallout 2

How the hell do you go south early?
Every strategy guide/faq claims you can walk south to San Fran right after you leave the village and get some power armor. I have attempted this more times than I care to keep track of, and every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time I come across a group of Enclave soldiers who promptly waste me with little effort. No amount of attempting to walk around the area in question is effective. It seems like I get to a certain latitude and BAMMO these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are laying in wait.

So, are all these guide writers just trolling? Is it at all possible to make the trip south so early on? What's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deal?

Tag outdoorsman skill and save scum across the wasteland

Did the guide not mention your supposed to save like every 4 steps in the wasteland on the way to San Francisco/Navarro? Your supposed to take a couple steps stop save continue another couple steps. Then every time you get wasted you just reload and try to make it a few steps farther.

I was saving very frequently. There's a certain point where I hit a group of Enclave no matter how frequently I save.

Maybe higher Outdoorsman? I'll try that, best answer I've heard yet.

Most of those *cheaters* usually take advantage of the worldmap CPU bug which means they can reach the other end of the map in about 3 seconds and will encounter nothing.

Like so...

BTW that is a speedrun video so it's very spoilery.

Here's a guy doing it the legit way with save scumming.

Yeah that area usually slows down even more so you need to make even more save/reloads. I'm not joking in that area you should be saving like every 2-3 pixels you move on the map.

You can do it, just really need to save every little move while going to Navarro as they will atomize your butt. Just need to get lucky with the High Outdoorsman skill really but it is doable!

If you want to go to SF early and without seeing any Enclave, recruit Sulik for his 80% Outdoormans, start from the Den, go one square to the right and go down South directly, you'll get to SF directly.

Are you using the restoration patch? The restoration patch makes Navarro Runs a lot more difficult since it buffs up the encounters around that area and in other places like to the immediate west of New Reno.

(Spoilers) My brother figured it out by taking the Outdoor tag skill, and focusing on perception and agility, and having decreased strength like 3 or 4. Go towards San Fransisco as soon as you go to the world map, saving along the way because encounters will kill you easily. Once you go to San Fransisco, go to to the Brotherhood of Steel bunker and accept the quest there. Go north by northwest and you will find a gas station (saving a lot along the way) with a man with purple robes. Save it, and then go behind and sneak and either steal his radio or kill him. Use the radio to fool the guards. If you have good enough charisma or speech, you can convince the dude in the robe that you are new, and then he will radio in to let you pass without setting off the alarms. Inside the base, you will find a lot of goodies, including Enclave power armor.

don't wanna sound like a ♥♥♥♥ or anything but maybe just play the game how you normally would without skipping ahead to endgame. the armor and guns dont matter that much if you dont have the health to back it up. i also get this was a while ago so im sure youre finished by now
