Fallout 2
Why is fallout 1 and 2 mostly being played by Russians?
When i search up fallout 1/2 on YouTube a large majority of the videos are in Russian. it's not that i have anything against Russia it's just that i'm a little confused that only people in that continent seem to be making videos on it nowadays.

I think it's because S.T.A.L.K.E.R is a very popular franchise in Eastern Europe (and underrated in the west) and S.T.A.L.K.E.R pays a lot of homage to the classic Fallout series. Also several very well done classic Fallout mods were developed by Russian modding teams.

From the Fallout wiki:
"In the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games developed by GSC Gameworlds, the data for weapons from Fallout 2 such as the Bozar, M72 Gauss rifle, and .223 pistol exist in the game files of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, but remain unimplemented. The Gauss rifle was implemented in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky as the EM1 rifle, however."

Fall 2 was far before Stalker. Stalker is mostly the product of people who wanted to make their own Fallout with anomalies and vodka. In my opinion, post-apocalyptic setting is closer to Russians, as it, well, brings the familiar feeling on despair and dystopia that they face every day by just looking in the window. Just google usual Russian town and you would see it for yourself. A lot of people far behind Moscow live in this postapoc every day.

Plus, Russians have a huge cultural, civic and other kind influence of Chernobyl tragedy. My uncle was one of the liquidators, so do a lot of families across post USSR. This post-nuclear topic is very familiar to lots of people.

That's true too.
Russians certainly seem to like post apocalyptic and dystopian themes. When I was looking for Metro 2034 in a book store in Moscow, It was sold out, but one of the store employees recommend me a bunch of other post apocalyptic books too. This was before the first game was made.

I think stalker game series it's consequence not cause. And "Roadside Picnic" is not cause.
I've actually played Fallout long before read book or played stalker. Why?

I like RPG games. I don't like fantasy games. I interest in tech. There was not much games match this criteria. Soviet was good in many tech things.

Soviet fall was actually apocalypse for us, and we living in it.

It was interested to see how people on other side see
3rd world war aftermath.

And it was damn good game =)
