Fallout 2

Fallout 2

Gonna start Fallout 2 soon...
I just finished Fallout 1 and while I did enjoy it, the last two parts of the game was pain in the ass because it kept crashing crazy. Almost ruined my experience.
Anything I should know before hand? Any bugs or exploit that could crash the game?

I suppose it's a little less buggy. It's recommeded to use the unofficial patch (Restoration Project). Also the final boss battle is sometimes buggy here too - I saved during it and pretty soon those saves got corrupted.

First playthrough was corrupted saves. Second playthrough worked but a few crashes here and there. Don't buy the game if you are worrying about crash and such.

fallout 2 will crash less, especially if you use killaps restoration patch (google it, it's a must have as it makes the game much better and restores cut content with some added features and stability and so on).

I have the unofficial patch and restoration mod installed. I don't know if I did it right with the first game but can it be opened through steam or do I need to use the modded .exe?

Strangely enough, I experienced crashing with Fallout 1 and 2 on Windows 7, but I've yet to experience any crashing through Windows 10. In fact, Windows 10 actually tends to run older games better than Windows 7 ever did. Fallout, FreeSpace, Dark Forces 2 all work flawlessly for me.

Highly recommend the aforementioned unofficial patch though. Don't use the restoration patch for a first playthrough, imo it ruins the experience the first time. Second time is great though because you can see all the content that was removed and really understand how much was cut at the time.

Lol. You can probably play through it with either the unofficial patch or restoration patch (don't install both). You should expect at least a few crashes. Try to make many saves to lessen the risk of corrupted save. Oh and don't put many items in your car and don't save during combat either.

It crashes occasionally. Just save often, it takes a few seconds to save the game and I've yet to see any corrupted saves.

How is that thing of the car trunk? I always use it to store ammo and some useless items i like. My last game crashed hard, it corrupted ALL of my save files, but i thought it was just because i carelessly saved during a combat.
