I like Fallout 2 a lot, my only issue is that sometimes I find it difficult to figure out how to complete a quest(repair gecko reactor).

Some people very much overemphasize about the pop culture references, fourth-wall breaking, humor and stuff. Sure, it's there, but there's way more to the game and it's just a nice touch I think. The game isn't only all about that... like how some folks tend to imply. I don't think it "deflates" the atmosphere too much either, it fits in fine with the universe, etc. I still think Fallout 2 has a "dark" theme and I disagree about it trying to be too funny... likewise I could contend that Fallout 1 tries to be too serious.
I never even really paid attention to the pop culture references until I seen people complaining about it. I was too busy role playing and having a great time. It just seems like such a small complaint when the game has so many positives.

Yeah I'm used to Fallout 2 since I've replayed it alot but I understand this. When I first started playing I was clicking on everything because I didn't know what to do.

I like the frist fallout(I play it today not in the 90, so no bs on nostalgia) it have a good story with a logical progression, a fair balance that was not to hard or nor easy and a twitsted but lovely humour to it.

FOR FALLOUT 2 WHATSOEVER, It was a pain there where no redemder quality to it and left me with a bad case anger like few game left me before.Where the big pisture:

-the story is awful. The very strat of the game,you-a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tribe man,the descend of the most high tech people from what left-most go venture in the worst tutorial level EVER design and found that relic of the past hero into a massive temple-that was crave in the rock by god know what-full of monster all alone with a spear-who can those poeple defend themself or not get raid by,you know, people with gun?-....

anyway it beating a dead horse at that point it left me confused more than anything.

-the combat. Imbalanced was hell, compared to the frist one, this game show no sign of balance give you spear and except to take out 10 wolf all by yourself and with half blind guy(name vic?)

it just awful,awful...

-the glitch or cut(but still there content) content
Why there flying buble speech?
why I am going to 2 fps when I was there at the begining?
why the ending is glitch and don't take in consideration what I have done?
And many more thing that was never fix by those dev.

----You can corect if I am wrong, did this game was made in a year(or less) and the dev was give free reign and it is the ressond why it is bad?

I hate it only because of some bug broke the game for me after 70+ hours. Suddenly it started crash regularly. So couldn't finish it.

I didn't like it either when I first played it way back when. I played it after playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so I wasn't used to the importance of skills and stats and all. Seriously, you can roll your face on the keyboard while playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas and still win.

But once I figured out how to play the classic games, I absolutely adore them. I have 300+ separate hours in both games. I enjoy creating different types of builds, the games are ridiculously jam packed. My current playthrough is a merchant of death . He sucks at fighting, but can ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ his way through anything and is swimming in money with a high barter skill. I beat the first Fallout with this character by bluffing my way through all the end game content. :D

God! You gotta be kidding me. I loved this game and the original when they first came out. But now? It's awful! The controls are clunky. The print is too small to read--even with a 46 inch monitor. And the video just sucks. Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas have spoiled the first two forever--or until they completely redo them.

The plot--what plot? You have to find a garden of eden creation kit. That's the plot. Very deep. I remember how I got my first halfway decent weapon. There were none to be had in Klamath. I went to the second town, found the merchant who tried to talk like the Godfather, and killed him. Robbed his corpse and got a few weapons, some cheap armor, and some ammo. They let you put armor on your companions--an improvement from the original--but they still dropped dead if they got breathed on hard.

I made it through the beginning temple, then had to quit out of sheer boredom. Slow moving--this game moves like molasses--maybe slower.

Well. I do not think any of the criticisms you give are really fair. Remember. You can not compare games from 1998 with games from 2008, 2010 and 2015.

The plot is actually more then just finding the GECK. You also have to save your village from the Enclave. I also think you forget that the plot in Fallout 1 is "find the waterchip" and then "stop the super mutants". That is it and nothing more. Fallout 1 and 2 have simple plots because the point of the game is for you to RP. The more elaborated the plot is the less choices you as a player have. The plot in both Fallout 3 and 4 are horrible. I rather spend 100 hours in Fallout 2 then in any of those games. In Fallout 3 you have no real choice in being able to define your character. You are a 19 year old that spent all of their life inside a vault. In Fallout 1 and 2 you can be a 60 year old, or a 16 year old. If you want you can be push the moralities of the wasteland hard and become a best 16 year old PokeAHotHole star in the wasteland. Or the best 75 year old for that matter. In Fallout 3 you are forced to care about where you father went. There is no reason for it, you just have to. In Fallout 1 and 2 you did it for the people your character cares about. That is unless you leave them and stick around in New Reno for the rest of the time.

The biggest problem with Fallout 2 is the toneshift. Fallout 1 was dark and grim. Here it is nothing but popculture references and silly things.

I was at one of my friends and have seen him playing Fallout. Trying to kill rats had not interested me at first. The rats were killing him again and again, so he called for my help. Exiting the cave entering the first village was enough for me to decide to buy the game. Lucky me, he was bored with difficulty, he gifted it to me on the spot. So this is the story how I played the god of games by gamers and how one hates it.

Amazing story.

Because Fallout games demand the impossible ability to remain calm, cold and well-aware of the situation, but also to make difficulty decisions that are entirely based on your own sense of morality.
Moments like stepping into a village full of hungry people and accepting a slave owning guild within the city you are are very difficult and they're many in the game.
Having not yet completed Fallout 2, but still somewhere at the beggining of it...
I can fully understand that this game is even more difficult morally than the previous one...
And this might cause certain personal issues... Personal mental breakdowns... Personal... Personality Problems...

If you like that, then you might wanna try out the indie cRPG, Age of Decadence. I'm playing that right now for the 6th or 7th time and that game really blends the line between good vs. evil. A vast majority of the characters in that game tilt towards either grey or just plain evil, and it's also one of the few rpgs where non-violent playthroughs are entirely possible. In fact, it's actually easier to do a pacifist playthrough than a "solve every problem by beating it" type character.

For example, I'm doing a thief playthrough and was doing a side quest that basically involved saving a hostage from one of the noble houses in the game. Instead of attacking the raiders, I simply went to the thief's "guildhall", did a favor for the master thief by stealing a coveted gold goblet from some rich dude and in exchange he sent some thieves to deal with the raiders and free the hostage. So I ended up being rewarded for both quests as opposed to just killing the raiders. It's a lot like Fallout 2, but takes everything just a little step further than just "talking everyone down", and of course, like Fallout there are some instances where violence is absolutely necessary, but can still be avoided if you are careful and know what you're doing.

Hi. Only thing that pisses me off is the fact that my companions will shoot through me instead of finding a better los to shoot the enemy. Apart from this it is one heck of a game. Need to mention the Childkiller repo? How many games today can boast of that?

I'll take a look.
Unfortunately, right now, my computer is kinda damaged and I won't be able to play it, but maybe in a year.

I don't disagree with any of your complaints but I guess they aren't a issue for me. But the reasons why I love Fallout 2 is because of the role playing and every quest has multiple solutions. Fallout 4 is the only Fallout game I don't like. I hate it actually because of the lack of role playing and the over emphasis on shooting. But 3 & FNV are great.
