Fallout 2

"Fallout 2 can't run without the CD!" ??
Yeeah, so I bought Fallout 2 brand new recently (would've used Steam but my gift card wouldn't let me so) and started installing it today. Everything looked fine and dandy, and it was ready to play, but then whenever I would click play it would give me the error message "Fallout 2 can't run without the CD!" which baffled me, given the disk was still running in my computer. I searched online for an answer to this but I found nothing. Can anybody help me?
I'm on Windows 10.
Thanks so much.

Because the game was invented back in those days when you needed the cd to be in to play it

Understandable, and that's fine with me, but the problem is even with the CD in my computer it still won't run. I heard there are patches to fix this but I'm not sure which one would do me justice.

I’ve had a issue with that with other games and I could never fix it so sorry I’m not a great tech guy

No worries, you're fine dude. It's a tricky issue from what I've seen-- I'm awful at tech stuff which is why I'm so hopelessly lost at this too haha

you need to install it on " humangous" to getit to work without a CD

also, if you buy it on steam, you won`t need a CD.
OR you can just download daemontools, a copy of fallout 2, and play it..

easy
Now I have to word this carefully to avoid breaking Steam Terms Of Service...
You can make an image of the CD and use a CD emulation software so you can put the disc away for safe keeping then, which usually will let you bypass the check for it (or make it so it will work properly). This is often the case with old means of copy protection, which no longer work on modern operating systems (but the game does run). You can also download patches for it but I would recommend against downloading executables from shady sites on the subject, as you CAN get your computer sick doing that.
Best bet is to pick it up on GOG or Steam and run it that way, it's only a few bucks, unless you have an old computer with XP or Windows 98/ME on it to run it from.
Fallout 1 and 2 will run on an original pentium 120 just fine (the overworld might be a tad choppy near the bottom end of those specs), but it'll run, it doesn't need much RAM either.
ANY Pentium II or III processor will run this game like a boss. So if someone has a really old tower laying around that still works, go pick it up and run the game (and a lot of your old games), just be way Windows 98 had issues over 400mhz CPU's or so, with random timing-related crashes, so do find a later copy of 98 to run on it.

I would pick it up on Steam or GOG versus going through all that hub-bub, it's only a few bucks, most people have that laying about in their car cup holders - or within the confines of the couch cushions.

Would recommend playing Fallout 1 (runs fantastic in DOSBOX) before Fallout 2, for what it's worth.
