How the ♥♥♥♥ do I clear vault 15?
My character is an unarmed build, level 10 and gets blown to pieces because of stupid automatic guns in vault 15 the second I step in. Speech was never an option because he's a dumber than a crackhead. I've reloaded for an hour just trying to kill one of them and nothing. DIfficulty has no effect, if anything i'm dying quicker with difficulty down.

I'm not gonna cheat and grab a overpowered power fist, or go to Navarro and get power armor and tons of other♥♥♥♥♥♥and sell it all for 300 caps max at every vendor I see. I want to play this how the devs intended, clear vault 15 so I can get to the computer mainframe and learn where vault 13 is and not get stupidly lucky by going down dumonds path and tracking down the deathclaws since my character's luck 9, was 10 until I took the hubologist's zeta test and got his only redeeming quality reduced.

Hmm are you sure it's fallout 2? I don't remember any autoguns in vault 15, just darian, his dog, and his gang. And my name is Pat, I'm new here, inside joke :)

Edit: Is this the military base near New Reno? that's not vault 15. You need 2 doses of psycho, and aim for the sensors for an hth character to have a chance at taking the sentry turrets out. A sniper rifle works waaay better.

The Khans're all carrying weapons that can do burst shot, like 10mm SMG, of course those are far deadlier than any single shot rifle, maybe it's the restoration project .I gave up on the game, though. atleast I hope so: hard for me to stop playing something I once thought was the best game I've ever played(my first three playthroughs were speech characters), ran into problem after problem after problem that I just couldn't fix or find any help for on the internet and it was probably gonna do a number on my mental state so I just got off.

Thank you for trying to help, though, Pat.

Spoilers...

OK burst weapons, they do have a lot of those. Did you make any enemies on the surface, like rescue the girl? Do anything that might rile up the gang later.

That way the gang stays peaceful, and you say your name is Pat, but with low speech, that may not work. A low speech character must have high sneak skill to control how many enemies come at you in combat. Usually I steal the chems off the lvl 1 guards, esp. the guy with the psycho before any combat. 2 Psycho and some stims can get you thru this if they don't get a lucky armor piercing critical. Aim for the head to knock them down so you can take their stuff during combat. and eyes for the kill.

Yeah, I think it's the sneak skill I've gotta increase, not kidding, the whole area is alerted when I go down there, the only way I've been able to "survive" a turn is to go down down the elevator, get attacked cause they have better sequence and take 30 damage if I'm lucky, then punch one in the eyes, hoping I knock an eye out, which my guy usually does( they get thrown back too far for me to grab their guns). Then I'd go back up the elevator. If I go a turn down there, there's four men directly there 3 of them with burst weapons, and everyone else in the room is coming. And yeah, my guy has too much Autism to say he's Pat, all I can say is I got my ID for them, and that ID is death.

I just loaded up a game and did the vault 15 quests again with purely an hth character whose not Pat. It can be done, if you can sneak past the lower guards and get to the docs med bay, that doorway can keep most of them out while you work them over 1 at a time. Edit: That 1 guy with the psycho is a pain tho.

Also nvm about not rescuing the princess, it will still work...I just tend to blast the 1st door I find that goes to where i want to go :)

Your dedication to helping people is very appreciated, if I ever get back on the game, I'll make sure to try it again with your wisdom. Although, I've probably screwed myself over anyway, since I'm attacked right when I get down. When I stopped playing I was having far more trouble with the San Francisco Arena, and just gave up after doing it for probably 3 hours and crashing non stop. Completed it once and got 8000 xp so I couldn't bring myself to just skip it if I somehow got through it once. Sad, cause the reason I got on a fourth playthrough in the first place was because i got nostalgic of the Shi.

np, I just like the game and want other people to like it too. It's on my top ten list of all time faves.

same, it''s probably my favorite game ever, but boy it can be annoying at times.
Castle Bravo Apr 23, 2019 @ 1:52pm
Drugs, combat armor from NCR, and more drugs. After that, take some drugs. Two doses of psycho should do the trick, but some buffout might help if you don't have max str, and maybe some jet if you are that desperate.

Chems are great in this game, they require a bit of figuring out to get the benefits so most people ignore them. They can be used for improving skills on the downside, as well as combat/perks on the upside. They can improve (or nerf) your companions stats as well on a semi permanent basis.

Get Power Armor

I don't think the devs necessarily thought people should not use it by then. That's supposed to be later in the game anyway...

I wouldn't call that cheating either, as you can still do well with just combat armor and decent enough stats. But it's dumb to try to clear out Vault 15 with low stats and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ equipment, or if an unarmed character wear power armor anyway.

And compared to some random encounters, clearing out Vault 15 isn't much. You'd best level up, get better equipment, etc.

Nevermind, I had something else here but forgot the 2nd level where you enter and you have enemies right there next to you right away. But anyway, having no ranged weapons will just limit you much more.

The one thing I'd add is always have a save slot for when you 1st enter an area, and just before you leave..That way you won't get trapped with no way to backtrack outta there.
D3LTA WAV3 Apr 26, 2019 @ 12:34pm
Yeah, that's definitely true, althoough I won't use power armor until it's found along the game. Since the navarro run makes the game a joke.
Digger Apr 26, 2019 @ 12:57pm
The navarro run actually breaks a few things in the story. There is free power armor elsewhere, but if you have trouble with vault 15, wait till you meet Melchior's pets :)
The Great Cornholio May 18, 2019 @ 12:11pm
Level 10 is low for the NCR area. Go kill a lot of random encounters to level up. I havent played in a while but I think you can buy a power fist at either NCR or New Reno. A power fist + psycho would get you through the vault.
