fastest way to get a gun?

I too would like to know, spent a lot of early points into small guns. Would rather live in poverty with a gun than lug tonnes of health with a spear and knife

I mean it's not a great gun, but if you still have a spear it must be kind of early in the game so... Vic's shack in Klamath has a rifle in one of the containers.

If you're willing to run through some rats, there's a 10mm pistol in the quest area past the locked door in Trapper Town. At least you won't have to spend AP reloading every round.

I guess that 10mm gun is the fastest and sure way to get from rat caves, another way is to just be lucky, travel east from Den area, then circle around till you get a random encounter and hope to see a fight between a merchant and some bandits, with luck you'll end up with a hunting rifle or 10mm smg, if you're unlucky bandits will try to shoot you with that rifle.

As a side note if your unarmed skills are high enough to says 'strong' instead just punch and kick it's actually better than normal spear.

If you have a companion or two with you, you can roll up to Tubby's store in the Den and kill the proprietor; he carries a 10mm SMG with about 60 rounds, but won't actually use it. There's another guy across the street with a pseudo-Italian accent that you can kill to loot some decent guns and ammunition.

If you sneak and make sure nobody's looking, you can also loot some ammo from the bunker under the Ghost Farm, which can be reached by stepping on the carpet in the shack. Starting the quest there and not finishing in time (which will probably happen if you don't look up how to do it) will also spawn some corpses in front of the farm from which you can loot some guns and ammo.

Roam around Den until you get Caravan vs Raiders or a similar random encounter. NPCs kill each other and you get all the guns from the corpses.

Do the mission for the chick with the casino in the den to collect money from a bum. Ask the bum for money, then kill him. The store guy flick will attack you and he's easy and has a bunch of guns and ammo on him.

OK. The easiest way to get a 10mm pistol in the beginning of the game for free is:

Go to the Den and do quests for Lara. On a third task, she will ask you to help in the battle with Tyler's guards. Agree and just wait when Lara and her boys will kill all enemies. If you took Vick's one-shot rifle in Klamath‎ you can help them. When the shooting will be over, just pick up the weapons from the bodies.

Also an option, only it does not always spawn there. Often the loot that the player finds depends on luck.

Well you certainly can do that, but it's completely pointless.

It's better to give Fred money and if your luck is high (I always set it on 8) then after a while you will get from him 2000 $, a plasma grenade, 200 small energy cells and 250 microfusion cells. Much more profitable than just killing him to get a cheep gun.

Sure if you have high luck. Many people don't though. And money becomes easy to get late game anyway. If you need a gun early, it's a solid plan.

I do believe that pistol is always found there regardless how low your luck is, along with a combat knife that lays on the rat nest.

Or maybe I just was unlucky, because in one of my playthroughI I did not find it there.

I thought that was guaranteed if you just wait long enough, I've never had him ♥♥♥♥ me over and my current character has pretty low luck

Well I'm based on guides from the 90's, in which it was written that there is a chance that he will not return anything if your luck is low. But now I could not find any confirmation of this, so I'm not so sure about this now.

It looks like this is really a guaranteed event. And I thought that everything in this game depends on luck.

Lol I do this with the herbalist vs raiders... :)

A great way to collect a ton of loot in the early stages when your character is still fairly weak/low level is to look for random encounters of [any group] fighting [any caravan], stay out of the way and watch them duke it out until their numbers have thinned significantly, then join with the losing side to defeat their enemy. Once done, finish off whoever is left on the side you just joined. Those caravan masters carry a great deal of juicy loot.
