Agility and Action Point Questions (Restoration)
So my fellow wastelanders I need some clarity on the mechanics of action points and agility level. Now i've seen guides that recommend starting on 10 AG, thus if you don't take any traits that hinder AP, then you have the max of 10. Now I noticed the Action Boy perk really stresses "You get an extra AP to spend on whatever" which sounds like it could raise the maximum. However I tried taking it after having 10 Agility, I also used the syringe found in the blue level of the EPA, but I don't believe I had more than 10 AP a turn unless I would use Jet. Maybe I am wrong but I can't check as I cleared the character data. This guide I saw that says to start with 10 AG recommends picking Action Boy twice during the playthrough, which would be pointless if it didn't actually raise the AP max.

So honestly does it raise the max? Or is there any improper order in which to accumulate AG points through the Gain Agility perk, the syringe in the EPA, and action boy perks that will limit you to 10 max? I'd love more AP I gotta say. This is my first big guns play through and burst firing takes a lot. Yes I have fast shot

UPDATE. I'm playing a stupid character and just got my hands on Farrel's cookie which boosts Max AP by 1, saving it for when I have this all cleared up.

Yup, Action Boy still works even with 10 agility. I've had 12 AP characters in the past.

When in doubt, check the Fallout wiki

10 agility is the maximum that you can have, and having 11 agility will not grant you anymore action points.
Thus, by taking 10 agility points from the start, you kinda loose 1 stat point, because as you mentioned, you can later in the game inrease your agility by 1.

You can check the Fallout 2 wikia to see that you can add 1, sometimes 2 points of stats for every stat, thus, if you plan on a build that use x amount of strenght and y amount of luck, you should take into account that you'll be able, later in the game, to increase those stats.

Usually, you never go for a 10 in the stat department during character creation (for a min-maxer of course).

As a note, strength is the one stat that you can dump a lot because, you can - if memory serves right - later increase it by 5 (+4 PA, +1 chirurgical operation).

About Agility Perks.
Like Action Hero, they do give you a bonus to your action points, whatever actoin points you already have.
You can pick this perk twice and thus, you can have a maximum of 12 action points without taking drugs.
I never took drugs, so I don't know if you can go on top of that.

If you want to find out what are the best builds for Fallout 2, and if you want to get a proper understanding at stats/skills/traits/perks mechanics, I cannot advice you enough to check out Nerdcommando videos on youtube.
edit: his videos are available both in english and russian

You get the extra AP with Action Boy / Girl.
It just doesn't show up on the UI...it will only show 10 AP. But it's there.
Ill be damned. Thanks everyone. One last question related to this, in order to get to 12 AP, do I have to wait to pick action boy until after I've reached 10 AG?

However new problems arise....

I guess I thought there was a brotherhood memory module that boosted agility, but It would appear that I'm wrong. Thus I'm going to have to get the syringe in the EPA (as a stupid character somehow, mentats?) and use the gain agility perk at some point to even reach 9 AG, since I started with 7. I don't think there is another way to raise AG without drugs but if someone knows a way, please speak up. Otherwise, will I still reach 12 AP if I get to 9 AG, choose Action Boy Twice, then eat Farrel's cookie?

No, it's fine, you can get action boy asap.

There is no other way than EPA to increase agility permanently.
And the perk that boost agility.

Actually, there seem to be this:
''In Fallout 2, The Chosen One can get a permanent +1 Agility by first sleeping with Miss Kitty and immediately afterwards sleeping with one of her prostitutes. (Restoration Project only)''

But I think you can only sleep with her after ''beating'' the game.
Hmm. Will she sleep with a stupid character? I also just realized to get the agility syringe in the epa i need not only normal intelligence, but high speech too. I dont know if itll be worth forfeiting skill points to speech for 6 more xp levels so i may abandon that hope for raising AG as well. Leaving me only with the Gain Agility perk, and the AP boost from action boy and farrels cookie. Should get me to 11 AP i believe. I need all ap i can get because this is gonna be a big guns character come end game and with bonus rate of fire i should beable to fire twice a turn with 11 AP right?
Codester Jan 18, 2017 @ 9:51am
You can fire twice even without the bonus rate of fire trait. I would say that trait is garbage because aimed shots will net you the highest damage output. With one exception which applies to you, a big guns build. Also yes you can have over 10 AP don't listen to the people saying it doesn't work every single build I made has 12 so I can fire 3 aimed shots with rifles or energy weapons. I have beaten this game probably around 50 times since its release if not more, was my favorite game growing up and still is one of my favorites.

@Codester The best firearm damage output is without aimed shot.
@Blight High speech is a must in Fallout 2.

So since I have a starting 7 AG, what should I do to get my AP to 12? I have the cookie still which I haven't eaten yet, that boosts max AP by 1. Then I can choose Action boy twice. I'm not sure if choosing gain agility to go from 7 to 8 will even raise my AP from 8 to 9, will it?
Sloul Des Tucs Jan 21, 2017 @ 8:42am
You can eat that cookie asap.
Maybe you can try to bed with Mrs Kitty and her workers as mentioned in the wiki but you will have to beat the Enclave to do that.
Otherwise, you can't get 12.
Actually it appears I was wrong about AG. The formula for AP is 5 + (AG/2) so with 8 AG, i have 9 AP, and then eating the cookie gives me 10, and once i have two action boys, ill have 12. So thats a relief, but NEW issues have surfaced. It appears I can't unlock BONUS RATE OF FIRE unless I have intelligence 6, and this is a stupid playthrough. If I were to take 2 mentats right before leveling would I have access to this perk or does it not work that way?
ah...wrong again, the cookie is temporary
