stuck in vault 15 caverns

So I started playing a few days ago and made it to the vault 15 caverns without getting the rope first. Now I can't figure out how to get out of the caverns to go back and get a rope. Am I stuck for good and need to start the game over or is there some way to get out so I can go get a rope? Every guide I find just says "leave vault 15" when done with the place but none say how :(

EDIT: I found my way out of the caverns area of vault 15. I couldn't see the ladder to do insane pixelation. Gotta love the oldies.

wut? you can't go down without a rope. Btw. there will be another rope in one of the lockers to go further down.

you go back up by clicking on the hanging rope

if you just can't find the exit of the area, you need to go area marked red, and you will exit the area:

Ok maybe I wasn't clear enough. I don't have a rope so I can't go down the elevator. I am currently in the caverns area and wish to go back up to the shack so I can make my way to Shady Sands to get a rope. I can't find a way to go back up to the shack................nevermind just found the ladder, thank god.

You get the rope in arenas town, in the last house below the farm, thank me later :)

I know this is old but for anyone wondering: There is the ladder with which you came down to the vault. If you observe it, you climb back up to the surface.
