Fallout 1 wont play

Hi guys,

I cant play it normally or classic... I press play and nothing happens!?

Start the game from its executable in "Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout"? Works for me pretty good!

i tried to start form the exe. file but that did not work. ever time i try to launch it there is a error message of "failure initializing input device" any ideas on how to get around this?

Look in the Program Files folders.

Yes and it works.

1. Navigate to the game files as described: Right-click Fallout in your Steam library and click Properties. Go to the Local Files tab and choose 'Browse Local Files...'
2. Create a shortcut for falloutwHR.exe file
3. Right-click on the shortcut, select Properties
4. Select the Compatibility tab, then check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox and select "Windows XP Service Pack 2". Click OK.
5. Launch the game from the created shortcut.

Note that after the first run game will run without error from Steam directly.

That's funny, I never even needed compatibility mode. I don't really trust it either.

When i load the starting menu andd press play I get a split second of the starting picture and the game just stops and doesn't show it PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Won't work for me ether. Tried running it directly from the .exe, tried running it in compatibility mode, tried installing Fallout Fixt, tried all the steps in Fixt's troubleshooting doc...still nothing. I keep getting the "Failure initializing input devices" error. :(

Works perfectly for me. Make sure you're running steam as administrator. Otherwise as other guy said try running it compatibility for other systems, maybe even windows 98 or something?


If all else fails buy an old windows xp computer :D

Okay so I did that entire step guide and what not, but when I start the game it says that I need to insert the fallout disc??
