I just created a new character with high agility and perception, made a world of difference. Now I understand why this game is so beloved. If anyone who had this issue sees this thread agility is literally game changing. Also save a lot and have two "oh ♥♥♥♥" saves.
Tip for the Mariposa Military Base (and in general for combat): RPG shots and minigun bursts can one-shot you, so you have to think of ways to prevent them from shooting you in the first place.
Try to line-of-sight the enemies (aggro them and wait behind a wall), wait for them to come to you, then use a high damage burst weapon to (hopefully) one-shot them once they're right in front of you. What you do here depends on your build. If you have Max ST and AG, Fast Shot + Slayer + Bonus HtH, you can use your Power Fist for 1 AP and just spam that once they get to you behind cover.
You can also step out of cover, shoot, then back in. Otherwise, if you have a sniper build (High PE and AG; Sniper + 50 Range Rifle + Better Crits) you can try to out range them if you can go for eye shots. You can also try to cripple an arm to prevent them from using their big guns.
Last idea would be if you had the Turbo Plasma Rifle with Fast Shot + Rate of Fire. You can shoot it for 2 AP.
Thanks for the tip, I was way ahead of myself and din't realize delivering the water chip wasn't the end of the game Im currently running a crit small guns build.
Little of topic, but the quest for finding the missing parts for adytum, the parts aren't where they should be on the sidewalk in the deathclaw playground, is this a bug? Or is there any other way to get the parts?
You should be able to loot them from the dead guy in that area. You can also just pick up "junk" from a crate back in The Hub where Jacob is in Old Town (the pricier gun seller). It's basically the same item so you can just turn either one in to Smitty.
Nice! Careful in the Cathedral! It's going to be a little harder than Mariposa, but there are a lot of different ways to beat it (including a few to bypass the last fight!).
Thanks I will. Super Mutants are such a bear in this game idk how to approach them. I'm considering just grinding up my energy weapons skill but I already kiled the mother death claw :/
I think on my very first playthrough many years ago I walled myself out at the end because I made choices all around with regard to skills, traits, perks, etc. and killed the mother deathclaw. Basically did everything wrong and couldn't get beyond the Cathedral or Military Base, lol. Had to do a whole new playthrough to get it right. I'm sure that's happened to almost all Fallout players at the very start (especially in the old days).
Ranged combat builds are pretty much required for Fallout 1, and the more AP the better. You should have at least 8 agility for 9 AP, but 10 agility is what most people would use for 10 AP, since most weapons in the game require 5 AP to shoot.
Also 64% is pitiful for a combat stat. 100% is what you should aim for at the minimum, and you will likely end up going higher than that if you want to excel in combat.
Until then, you will want to pick and choose your fights carefully, and run from most of the random encounters.
As much as I enjoy this game, it really isn't as good as Fallout 3.
