I dont think he has played 1 or 2.
I watched part of a stream and it does look more like a shooter. I am sure its still a great game but it's not fallout in the way I like fallout.
As in not fulfilling its potential -wrong.
To me personally it is nice to see that a legacy of something can carry on especially if the product used to be so special for people who respectively in their time, were what a lot of audiences are today for the [current illiteration of ze] game (so no use crittersizing it). Expecting it to be something different (fallout 4) would be (maybe) taking away from certain people, who maybe make up for the most (if not a big/huge part IMO) of the success that is this game....
Unless it's all 'hype'.
To look at it this way; taking on that legacy adn building further upon it (fallout 3,NV now 4) means progress in the way that the game can be streamlined to be in essence bigger and wel better (in theory) because of the time put in throughout the 'phases' (read; parts; 3/nv/4) the product undergoes (a) subtile change(s) and thus in this way, can be polished up into something n1ce that original game (talking about the fps here, this 'first' Fallout3 [first for a lot of people]) could IMO never be at the time of it's release..... (not mentioning 'console' -restrictions but maybe I should have, that way this whole post would be 'dumbed down' to a sentance).
That the game you mentioned is made up of mostly things that work' is nothing new for the industry, as it carries on. In essence I would say carries on 'copying' (and pasting) but who am I to disagree eh? As a consumer I can but only spend and hope that I did make the right ("right") choice. And Enjoy. (and hope etc...)
...but then again so were the Isometrics.... (thought upon).
I will just wait with buying it until it goes on sale and/or people modded the ♥♥♥♥ out of it.
My favorite fallout is fallout 3 but fallout 1 is probably my second favorite. I don't get the praise for f2. Its story wasn't as good as f1 and it has way to many cultural references and fourth wall breaks I feel like I'm playing the parody of f1 rather than a sequel. I still love f2 to death but not as much as 1,3, or new Vegas. I only got f4 a week ago I can't rate the game honestly
Fallout 2 is very aware of itseslf, but as a game it;s much polished and playable than the previous. Can't consider f3 with the previous fallouts. They were real rpgs, f3 and later were just typical bethesda open world action games with the fallout name on them.
Could fallout 4 go the same way? Community help to turn into something great?
I hate that people are going on saying it's "just another shooter game," and that the graphics suck. But WHO CARES? What I care about is the story. What makes a game playable to me is how good the story is and the interactions between specific characters. Say, if a game had little to no interaction, and it just started you off. (ie, ride to hell: retribution) then I would say, yes it sucks. But if it has a wonderful story and some great plot development, then I will play it. I always play games for the story. It's like reading a book. Are you reading it for the font size or type of font, or are you reading it for the story?
I am sure it is a good game, but in a similar fashion to the final fantasy franchise, the new games being made AREN'T really fallout (or final fantasy) games. Just throw in harold, fatman, and a couple chocobos and then tack the franchise name on the box and drive sales that way.
It upsets fans and divides the fanbase. That is where the main frustration for long time fans come from. The game is fine... but it is insulting to call it a fallout game because it has power armor. The objects are there but the design philosophy isnt.
Compared to FO1, 2 and NV the story sucks.
