Playing as a bad guy
Hi all,
I've just started Fallout and I was wondering a thing.. what about playing as a bad guy?
Other games like Baldur's gate, Icewind Dale, Morrowind, etc give you the opportunity of being a rough bad guy, but, especially for Baldur's Gate, if you have a very low reputation you will not be able to go through the game due to the attacks you will receive from guards and other important beings. Thus it is only an apperent freedom and your character will have to be, at the end of the day, a good one.

Is the same for Fallout? Being banned from Junktown because you have killed Gizmo ruins the game or is Fallout a true open game?

Thank you!!

You can play good, bad or anything in between.

Your actions decide what will happen to towns / locations you visited in the end sequence.

The Junktown folks want the Gizmo quest done proper, not out of flat dislike for the guy. Killian really wants to know why the guy wants his life.

Ok, it was just an example I made..
I've got experience in other games like Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate where freedom to act was only virtual.
The reason was that you could behave badly and could survive to consequences of your actions, but acting in that way wouldn't let you finish the game.
In Fallout I just wanted to try to be a bad..s to see how it was playing on that side.
Of course, since it takes 30+ hours to be completed I didn't want to discover in the end that I was too bad to save my vault :)

You can be bad and still save your vault or you can sacrifice all of them for the most evil ending possible. Your choice and of course it is your choice if your playthrough is filled with corpses of "good" / "innocent" people or not.

You can be a really bad guy. You can join the Raiders, than (just for fun :) kill Tandy and Aradesh in Shady Sands (future NCR is no more :). In Junktown team up with Gizmo and Skulls and kill Kilian. In Hub do quests for Decker, you can also blackmail Iguana Bob (if you know little seacret from Junktown) for another karma loss etc. There is almost always a "bad guy" way in all towns and the game can be comleted that way (and in the end show to the Overseer, who is the real boss).

I've got to try!
I've erronously exterminated Skulls... :)
I am happy that you all understood my point, that was not playing as an hack 'n slash but which is Role Play Fallout as a bad guy.
For those of you who know Dungeons & Dragons it should be equal to being an evil chaotic PC

Beware, that with Bloody Mess, you'll get a "bad" ending anyway.
It's really cool and bad-ass.
But still bad.
