no man dont do it it breaks the ending even tho i used fixes purist only just play steam default
The bad news is, if you launch using the Fixt icon, you won't be running through the Steam client, so it won't keep track of your game time, and you won't be able to use chat. You could add the Fixt icon manually, but it still won't credit your gameplay for the Steam "default" version, as it sees this instead as the "non Steam game" Fallout Fixt.
Fixt offers some arguably nice perks, but if you are a first time Fallout 1 player, you might want to hold off. Even the "Fixes only" has it's issues with regards to game balance, as mentioned previously by another post. (ie: Max Stone starts with a Flamethrower, and I had a custom start off with a baton instead of the knife)
However, consider this: The Steam "default" is not the "true game" experience either.
As Steam's "deafaut" is an EU copy, it's has some minor content cut. Child violence reasons aside, this also effectively removes the Red Rocket BB gun from the game.
There is a patch available to fix this, restoring the children but there's some other steps required also. Rather than have to hunt around for this stuff though, here's a link with all the stuff you'll need and steps on installation: http://www.filedropper.com/fallout
Please note: The Steam "default" already comes with the resolution patch, so there's no need to worry about looking for that.
Children can't barter, so you do have to steal from them. But it's less evil than killing them off. By the way, since the children patch doesn't add them back into the game so much as "restore" their opacity (the EU version just made children transparent) is stil possible to become a "Childkiller" with AoE damage in any case, so go figure.
I am fascinated by the fact that they just made the children transparent though, thank you for sharing that.
Really sad to see to what lengths censors go to prevent us from seeing pixels when we only have to watch the news to hear about soldiers our own governments send somewhere to do real killings.
And doesn't Fixt install separately from the Steam version? If so, uninstalling Fixt shouldn't help the Steam version run better.
I just finished a run with Fixt after a very long time since my last FO1 playthrough and it was great in every way.
There are a few lingering issues such as Adytum vs Regulator where you still absolutely need to avoid friendly fire or they bug on you, but overall there is simply no reason why i'd want to go back to vanilla Fallout.
The few tweaks which really drastically modify the vanilla experience are mostly attempts to restore cut content you can toggle off during installation if you'd want to for whatever reason.
