Fallout Time limit
So, I wanted to finaly play fo1 after owning the game for like... forever. What scared me of was the Time limit of 150 + 100 Days for the Waterchip. But people told me that if i do this quest pretty early, then I will have more than enough time to acomplish that quest. But I also heard from a second time limit. Is this true? I also heard something that this second time limit got rid of. If this is true, was it due to some official Patches, or is it from an unofficial site? thanks in advance for your help

don't worry about it

I would add, the time limit is actually part of the charm of the game, it is nerve racking even now years since the game came out to see the water supply drop as you play.

Time pressure really is part of the game, but I like Fixt ability to extend it past (but not a lot past) 150 days. Without spoilering, pushing the first hard time limit from 150 to 180 or 210 days gives you time to do..."stuff" you might not discover in time without a walkthrough.

Rabblevox, true, but I feel like mod's are a different conversation. To me (and of course it is only my opinion) It seems dramatic to just jump to the "mod it" argument when it comes to older games. The charm of the original game can easily be lost for new players when modded years later to a different set of game-play standards.

I guess I try to hit the mid-point. I like Fixt because it "dusts off" the original game, without remaking it. As opposed to Et Tu or some of the other conversions, which re-make or re-imagine the game with different degrees of success. Or playing it vanilla, which makes my eyes bleed these days.

Of course, YMWV, playing pre-millennium games is a persnickety and personal pursuit.

Rabblevox, I agree with you in practice. But, I would still lodge a vote for playing at least one play-through for new players completely Stock/Vanilla to capture the late 90's aesthetic. Either way, I enjoyed the convo and Cheers!

I just got them the chip with 112 days remaining without b-lining for it or arranging for the water delivery, its not really a pressure and if you dont know the game doesnt end with the chip so no worries about waiting to do everything before you return it.

It's definitely a failable time limit by default though so don't be telling OP to just ignore it haha. Just treat it like it was (ideally) meant and prioritize spending a lot of time in towns where time only passes in real-time rather than in Oregon-Trail-time, picking up quests and talking to people for clues. If a quest sounds like it's not as time-sensitive as your main quest, just sideline it.

OP, if you're playing with the Fixt patch then know that you can continue your game after completing the main missions, so factor that into your time management plans also.

The 150 (or 250) day limit is quite forgiving. You'd have to do a whole lot of unnecessary world map travel or a lot of unnecessary resting to waste enough time to miss the deadline.

Yes, there are two more main quest objectives after the water chip. But apparently the time limit on that is enormous. It's so high I'm not even sure what it is. I've read that the shortest version's time limit was 500 days (400 days if you extended the original 150 day time limit by 100 days). 400 days is a lot.

If you're worried, play the FIXT version and remove the secondary time limit.

if you're worried about it you could just only do the main quest till you get the chip, as well as picking up a follower in shady sands. that's what i did as well as steeling from npc's. getting the chip and returning to vault 13 isn't the end of the game it just takes that time limit away and lets you do whatever afterward.

First time limit isnt an issue as long you dont sidetrack too much and dont overuse items and interactions that pass time.

Dont worry about the second time limit, you will have done everything way before it runs out since its a 13 years limit.
(There used to be an actual second time limit in a previous version but thats no longer a thing)

Even a casual playthrough can usually solve how to get the water chip within the 150 days, not needing to pay the Water Merchants. I think i failed it once back when the game was new in 1997, but never had an issue since then. I just played a full run of this game again the other week before i found out the TV show was a thing. I'm glad to see so many people revisiting this once obscure classic. If you like this game, play Fallout 2, they are companions of each other. I like the 2nd on even better.
