I guess I try to hit the mid-point. I like Fixt because it "dusts off" the original game, without remaking it. As opposed to Et Tu or some of the other conversions, which re-make or re-imagine the game with different degrees of success. Or playing it vanilla, which makes my eyes bleed these days.
Of course, YMWV, playing pre-millennium games is a persnickety and personal pursuit.
OP, if you're playing with the Fixt patch then know that you can continue your game after completing the main missions, so factor that into your time management plans also.
Yes, there are two more main quest objectives after the water chip. But apparently the time limit on that is enormous. It's so high I'm not even sure what it is. I've read that the shortest version's time limit was 500 days (400 days if you extended the original 150 day time limit by 100 days). 400 days is a lot.
If you're worried, play the FIXT version and remove the secondary time limit.
Dont worry about the second time limit, you will have done everything way before it runs out since its a 13 years limit.
(There used to be an actual second time limit in a previous version but thats no longer a thing)
