This (and the version from GoG which I don't think is any different) is the most patched version of the game, it even has sfall installed which allows you to change the resolution.
Unofficially?
The developers left a lot of bugs and imperfections in the game, which have been patched by modders. Therefore, if you want to play vanilla it is mandatory to install unofficial patches.
And even better, download any of the mods such as Fallout Fixt, or Et Tu. This is for Fallout 1.
For Fallout 2 you download either Unofficial Patch Updated or Restoration Project Updated. But not both at the same time, because the first mod contains only bug fixes, and the second contains bug fixes plus restores cut content.
No
It doesn't matter how you put it, this isnt Fallout 2 where it can be extremely broken without mods
To agree with you, I need to remove nearly 300 hours of playtime that went pretty smoothly.
some examples of this happening recently
found this while playing the game randomly looking for a 100% guide on steam
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2827735670
also just from randomly viewing the forums i found a patch for this old jrpg too while playing
https://steamcommunity.com/app/253940/discussions/0/792923683612848741/
- except i had to terminate my previous 100+ hours game because all my saves got corrupted. Very non broken, yes.
- you are playing with HiRes patch, bub, it is built in in Steam and GoG version. Its not a vanilla experience already.
By your reasoning no game would need any patches/fixes because some sob will always find it smooth no matter what.
And I suppose you are not going to give any context about this
Or the fact that you are not going to compare the few bugs that can be encountered to the absolute mess that is Fallout 2
Or take into account the fact that losing 100 hours in Fallout 1 isn't as meaningfull as you make it to be depending on what they contain
(Also lol, even modern games can be pretty bad about these kind of thing, pretty sure my chances of finding a AAA with as many bugs if not more are pretty high )
Like, you are talking to someone who made multiple characters using only one save slot and then replacing it with the next character
Multiple characters without saving where if I simply accepted their death
And only a few level max character that used multiple saves slots.
Its a thread about Fallout 1 on Steam
OP is talking about this version.
I am saying its not mandatory to install mods for THIS version
Also quite weird to compare modding to patches that are built in.
And I am not saying you SHOULDN'T install mods
I am saying you dont have to.
What you are saying is pointless and you trying to make me a villain of whatever narrative you have in your head.
Both F1 and F2 are playable from start to finish, but mods and unofficial patches make the gameplay much more enjoyable.
