Why is your character chosen to leave the vault?
I was just thinking about the beginning of Fallout 1, why was your character picked to leave the vault in the first place? On top of that, by yourself? I get it for gameplay sake, but thinking about practicality and lore wise it doesnt make much sense.

This is written by the Fallout 1 character in the Fallout 2 manual.

"I was born in the creche, and was raised by
the community (and a robot). It was a good life, but all
good things come to an end. About three generations after
the War, the water-purification chip the Vault relied on
to create the fresh water broke down. All the spare parts
were missing or busted, and without the water-chip the
Vault was doomed. Something had to be done.

The Overseer gathered the healthy of us between a
certain age and made us draw straws. Guess what? I drew
the short one. Wouldn’t be much of story if I didn’t,
would it?

I left the Vault the next day."

That's actually a pretty interesting question, two simple answers I could think of are:
a-you are just chosen randomly by the overseer, you have nothing special, just the sense of urgency makes him pick you, good for those who don't like the idea of being the chosen one.
b-you were being studied by the overseer and he see you as the most dangerous one, and probably the most able to overthrow him, that's why he wants you out of the Vault, and hence one of the endings.

Well thankfully Hopper gave the correct reason. No offense meant here, but both of your theories are flawed.

To address your first reasoning, A-If you are -chosen- randomly, doesn't that make you the chosen one? I mean, it doesn't matter if "it's good for those who don't like the idea of being the chosen one" if the end result is, well, being -chosen-...

To address B-How does he determine this specifically for your character? What I mean to say is, how many people played this with 1 Charisma, or a 1 in Intelligence, or a 1 in strength? That's very speculative considering a character can be created in a varity of ways that either is average or has strengths with weaknesses.

An Overseer might say "sure, Fallout Boy sure is super strong (STR 9), but he is as dumb as bricks (INT 2) and very antisocial (CHR 2), and would be a poor choice to lead the vault/would be easy to dupe". That reasoning seems the least likely to me, considering yuor character can be normie or mix/max out of the box (or rather, vault).
