Where can I buy 5mm JHP ammunition?
Hey.

I discovered the minigun in Fallout 1 as a wonderful Weapon against Deathclaws. But now I need more ammunition, which I cannot find anymore. I think that the trader at the gunrunners was selling 5mm JHP ammunition. But it seems that I already bought everything from him.

In the Hub or at the Brotherhood of Steel I cannot find a trader for 5mm JHP ammunition. Can I find it anywhere in the game or am I unlucky now?

I thought about it to kill some mutants for the 5mm JHP ammunition. But I'm not that strong to kill a horde of mutants in the wasteland. Maybe I shall try a rocketlauncher besides my sniper to kill them.

Some traders have 5mm AP ammo. But this should not work with the minigun, shouldn't it?

Pretty sure 5mm AP ammo would work, but all of the damage modifiers for ammo are bugged and don't work so it doesn't really matter what ammo you use.

Wow, what a fast response. Thank you, I will try then 5mm APP ammo for the minigun. I hope that it will work.

And I hope that 5mm AP is endless available for purchase.

You can kill mutants or robobrains to get some 5mm JHP (I prefer JHP to AP, it seemed to be more efficient in my run). A Super Mutant can easily be killed at short range/point blank with the minigun, providing that you have enough Strength and Big gun skill to use it properly.

(Remember you can unload miniguns that still have ammo inside, to pick up what's left without carrying the extra minigun itself)

5mm AP can be bought in the Hub (Old Town section, and maybe Downtown) or the Boneyard Gun Runners, but you must kill the deathclaws first.
You can also get some 5mm AP or JHP from a supplier called Michael if you joined the Brotherhood.

You may also want to try the Flamer, I heard it's slightly more powerful than the minigun, but it has a shorter range and the fuel isn't easy to carry.
If you are near the end of the game, but want to kill some deathclaws before the end, you may try the Gatling laser. The ammo (Microfusion cells) can be found on mutants, in the Military Base or the Cathedral. However, it is hard to find (only on a few mutants, including the Lieutenant) and is an Energy Gun, not a Big Gun. But it is one of the best weapons of the whole game.

You can also sneak through the claws' nest, without fighting 'em as long as they don't start combat. If they do, run for the exit grid!

I'd rather use a turbo plasma rifle, that thing wrecks absolute ♥♥♥♥.
