One Hander
This trait allows you to more skillfully use pistols and other one handed weapons, but gimps you with anything using two hands. While there are some very good one handed weapons, two handed weapons deal better damage and many have better range. What I want to know is if anybody actually thinks this trait is worthwhile in the first two games or if I should just skip it.

It's incredibly powerful if you build for it. Stuff like spiked knuckles, powerfists, the P90 in fallout 2, throwing items, and a lot of other things are one-handed. Just having it early on when you're largely limited to the 10mm pistol, SMG, and unarmed provides a huge to hit bonus.

You can take the mutate perk later when you've started finding two handed weapons. Not very efficient in fallout 2, but good in fallout 1.

Its better for new players, the +20% accuracy for ALL one handed weapons (from pistols, grenades, knifes, clubs and grenades) can be very good and help you diversify your arsenal and build to make the best out of any situation.
Still, if you're looking to min max and focus on a certain type of weapon skill rather than weapon class, its not really worthwile. The perk is still a very situational, compared to other more usefull ones like like Fast Shot, Kamikaze, Good Natured, Finesse or even Jinxed.

My unarmed character ran with it because i mean. why wouldn't you on an unarmed character!

It's a great trait and it stops you from going the tired old turbo plasma rifle route.

Remember that .223 pistol.

In F01 it's alright especially if your planning to play a melee build. The super sledge may deal more damage than a powerfist, but that slip and slide mechanic is honestly the most annoying thing ever. Funnily enough however the Fast Shot trait works with Melee weapons in F01. Meaning that if you get Fast shot then get Bonus HtH attacks you will be able to reduce the AP cost of Powerfist to 1 just like the Turbo Plasma.
So while your argument for playing ranged weapons is true its also fun sometimes to be a drunken brawler just beating people to a pulp.

In Fallout 2 however its a great perk since there is a expanded range of weapons. Weapons such as the Gauss pistol which deals less damage than the rifle but matches in range, and costs less to fire. The damage can be negated by the fact you get a free 20% accuracy bonus on shooting people in the eyes and blinding them which instantly removes most characters from even fighting.

Its not the Fallout 2 board but I'll add up on that and say that at the point where you have the Gauss Pistol, accuracy isnt an issue + the weapon already have the Weapon Accurate perk. So unless you dont tag small gun and you only use Gun and Bulllets Magazines to improve your small guns skill and you use Fast Shot, I say that the advantages of One Hander in Fallout 2 is pretty marginal.
And even then, its not the best pistol in the game since the Needler Pistol (available as early as Redding, the location is given in the Den by Tubby) exists and has Weapon Penetrate + the AP Needles does double damage, which in terms of damage surpasses both Gauss Weapons.

So basically, it's not worth making a build for either game using it due to the fact that two handed weapons are much stronger?

Also, boxing gloves and the plated version use both hands according to the Fallout wikia pages for them, so I would think that using One Hander would hamper your effectiveness in boxing.

it worked with my power glove. i find it to be very good in an unarmed build... i don't really remember ever finding boxing gloves lol

Yeah but you only get AP ammo from one vendor in NCR so you got to camp his shop for restock. Besides the Needler is only better Early to mid game.
Once you grab the Sniper perk the Needler looses its advantage because now the Gauss will bypass DT and DR by the same amount(assuming you grabbed better criticals to ensure every shot bypasses DT/DR).
Gauss 2mm ammo increases its damage by 50% Giving the Gauss final damage 33-48 while Needler using AP ammo will be 24-48 so the Gauss will do higher average damage over course of combat.
This coupled with the Accuracy bonus of the Weapon perk and the -30% AC (Needler gets 10%) modifier from the 2mm, and the longer range of the gun means the Gauss is Easily better.
So the Needler is a good choice if you want to play a run where you don't choose the Sniper perk.

You can go straight to NCR with caravans at Redding, you dont even need to fight much since the guards are well equiped and usually win.

Besides, I use the Needler straight from Redding to the end game with bo problem, you can bring up numbers all you want but clearing difficult areas at low levels and with ease for massive XP boost with ammo better available and cheaper than the 2mm EC.
