A 1:1 remake with better graphics would be rather boring. The combat doesn't really hold up to other modern turn-based RPGs. The combat would need to be more captivating and tactical to appeal to the modern gamer. Maybe more in the direction of Jagged Alliance 2 or Wasteland 3.
Same. Kind of like what happened with Baldurs Gate. Keep the original and just touch it up a bit.
Great old games = popular. Revamped remade games from great old games would be just as popular. Redo fallout 1 with current graphics. Fix old problems and adjust old skills and eliminate bugs. Work on mostly just a graphic update and try not to "break" the mechanics which made the original fun. Fix bugs, problems, abuses.. sure. Don't just throw in new stuff, which isn't the reason people liked the old game.
Look, they did Final fantasy 7. People asked for a long time to "update" the game to current systems. They did! To me, amazing. Someone actually had brains. Now if owning companies simply did that with other great old games and updated them for the year 2020+, they also would sell and be popular.
Old great games were great due to story, gameplay, etc, not graphics. Update the grapics, even better.
All it would take would be the owning parent company to actually use their brains and do it. It wouldn't cost them anything these days if they wanted to go the kickstarter method or something, or they could do it normally and realize they would make their money back easy.
