What happens to unused perks?

But as far as I remember if you get to level 6 in Fallout 1, you will lose your perk point if you didn't pick one at level 3, etc.

Taking this thread I provided, does somebody know if they've changed something? Can you save perks for later use?

If somebody else is interested in this question, then the answer is no, unused perks don't save for later use in Fallout (at least in unmodded Steam version). As soon as you get to level 6/9/etc you will lose your unused perk as usual. I don't know why Dustin81 said otherwise.
