If you're having issues getting Fallout 1 to run on Linux with Steam Play...read on
FalloutLauncher.exe crashes without spitting out any errors when launched via Steam on Linux.

Edit: I'm being told this no longer works for some people. Sad but it was good while it lasted.

A quick workaround is to browse to the steamapps/common/Fallout directory and rename FalloutLauncher.exe to something like FalloutLauncher.old and then rename FALLOUTW.exe to FalloutLauncher.exe - the game will now launch from Steam directly without issue. One could also open a terminal to the game's directory and wine FALLOUTW.exe directly if you didn't want to mess with the renaming.

Just a little helpful hint!

I will investigate and update as needed. I find it highly unlikely that they would have changed anything, that seems weird unless they pushed out an update to steamplay/proton/etc that borked something. No promises on when, but I'll see what I can find out.

Fix no longer works. I can run the game inside the fallout folder but not through steam. Weird

That's just plain silly. Well, it was good while it lasted anyway.
