How to know if weapon is 1 handed or 2 handed?
Hello, quick question. I'm doing my first run through the classic fallout games (My first fallout game was 4.. Yeah I know..). I love the game. But I have the perk 1 handed (or something like that) that hurts my 2 handed capabilites with weapons but excels at 1 handed weapons. My question is how can I distinguish between the two of what is a 1 handed or 2 handed weapon?

Isn't it obvious by the look of the weapon on your character if it's two handed or not?

Well, all of the small guns are one handed (It also includes generic and energy pistols, as well as the SMG). Some lighter melee weapons (like sledgehammer, knives) and unarmed equipment.

Edit: since you are not far into the game, I would probably recommend rolling back and making a new character. Once you get more serious and interesting weapons (sniper rifle, assault rifle etc) it will hurt your character a lot.

I see. The spear is held in 1 hand. So I assume it's 1 handed, typically I thought spears were 2 handed weapons. I'm new to this game and genre so I can be confused lol. Thanks!

Spears are always 2 handed. Also if you gotten yourself a grenade, it can allow you open doors/containers as if you were unarmed (you wouldn't see your character animation holstering his/her weapon).

Actually no, your "hands" are just two equipped items. They do NOT have to be weapons. I'm a big fan of the plasma rifle/stimpak combo

you can also open doors and containers with C4 and Dynamites

Also as for the OP, the "one hand" build is completely viable, the .223 pistol will take you through most of the game and the perk is also valid for energy weapons. Only thing is, it's not that big of a buff, you'll have exceeded it very quickly with your skill points

If you don't mind not being able to aim, a very solid build is the Finesse + Fast shot combo with small arms or energy weapons. Put 7-8 points in luck, or 10 if you don't mind gimping another stat and you'll tear throught the game with an incredible 20% crit chance, and you can grab 15% more with perks. Several crits cripple a target entirely, others bypass the armor or do multiples of the damage.. and another kills in one shot. Also, with decent Agility with that build, you can pump 4-5 shots per round with massive crit chances. By the time you get 35% crit chance, fights will become pretty hilarious as you blow up people's testicles, kneecaps, eyes, suddenly blow them up etc.

the melee build is viable but most fights are ranged so you waste a lot of AP getting from target to target and the last boss is insane in melee.. it shines a lot more in FO2.

True, but though getting the turbo plasma rifle and hardened power armor is worth it.
