Is Fallout 1 better than all the other fallout games?
I've played fallout 4, new vegas and fallout 3. I like them all. But i'm not sure about fallout 1 and fallout 2. I'm wondering if i should play fallout 1.

Fallout 1, 2 and NV are the only real Fallout games. 3 and 4 are fanfiction written by a company with a lot of money.

NV is closer to the overall feel of 1 and 2 than any of the other 3D Fallout games. Pretty sure it's also the only 3D one that doesn't retcon a whole bunch of lore. Since you've played that you can expect 1 and 2 to be similar to it in many ways.

In short 1, 2 and NV are quality RPGs and true Fallout games. As I said, 3 and 4 are garbage as far as Fallout goes. They're okay shooters but that's about it.

If you give half a sh*t about RPGs you -have- to play Fallout 1 and 2. Just try and forget you ever played 3 and 4.

My personnal preference is f1 > f2 > fn:v
Now, you are asking what is the definitive answer... I am just human, I can tell you what my favorite is, that's the best I can do.
I also think that F3 is ♥♥♥♥. It's still just a matter of opinion, so do, what you want to do with that.

Nowadays with internet, you have much better options than asking random people on internet what they think is best.
You have very long and detailed articles and videos on internet, the best advice I can give you is to dig up a bit on internet what you can find.
Now. If you do buy Fallout 1 and 2, I do believe that you spend less than 10$.
If you do work. 10$ is a ... like... very cheap. So.... just go ahead maybe.

''The blittering stupidity of Fallout 3'' is a great article. Not because it is named like that. Not because it is edgy. But because it details in great length everything wrong with F3. And everything wrong that you'll not find with F1 and 2, because first and foremost they are RPG with actual care and thoughts from the people that worked on them (at least on certain levels that didn't get so much attention in F3.

And possibly ''The shandification of Fallout: New Vegas''.
Which is a youtube video which is very interesting (even when not considering playing any Fallout game).

Good luck to you sir in your quest.

Not really. Different sorts of games. If you've played the New Vegas spin-off and liked that, you'll most probably enjoy 1 and 2. Horribly dated visuals and user interface but worth checking out to see how the series has evolved and in so doing, captured a modern audience.

First off NV is technically a spinoff but behaves alot more like a continuation off the originals than 3 and 4. The visuals aren't that bad and neither is the 2D 3rd person perspective, and I personally like the interface way more than the obviusly made for console sliders the 3D games have.

Believe me, bud, as someone who first played Fallout 1 in 2015 I can tell you the visuals aren't "horribly dated". Nor is the user interface. Infact I found the interface much better than the modern one. No buzzy transition screens or scrolling around like a d*ckhead. Straight to the point with all the menus being accessable in a single click. Lovely.

To be fair, Fallout 3's graphics have aged much more horribly than Fallout 1's. Think about that for a bit.

I prefer my outdated, rusty Pipboy to Iphones from modern fallouts. It just fits better to this grim, violent story about fallen civilization.

Fallout 1 is my personal favorite. I've played both Fallout 1 and 2, and there are many things in Fallout 2 that make me prefer 1 to 2.

What also make Fallout 1 my favorite is that it is "the one that started it all". Many famous concepts and characters (Vaults, Brotherhood of steel, Super mutants, Power armor, etc) were introduced in the first Fallout. You get to discover where (nearly) everything from the Fallout came from.

The story is awesome, and you're free to do almost everything you want (in Fallout 2 there are more restrictions), there are many ways to go through the game, memorable characters...

Fallout is a good game overall.

However, you might find it a little short. Compared to the other Fallout games, the world is very small, and you can beat the game in a few hours. This problem can be dealt with by playing the game with different characters (what if I played a character with high Strength ? Or high Intelligence ? Or really high Luck ?).

For all these reasons, I'd say you can buy Fallout 1, especially during these summer sales. You shouldn't be disappointed if you like the Fallout universe.

Never playing either fallout 1 or 2, I decided to pick them both up for like 5 bucks, along with tactics because it was included. Not disappointed even though already only like 23 minutes in.

I am not to big of a person that is like "I care if every and every RPG is an actual RPG and I will hunt you down if you disagree!" type, and I do like new vegas better than 4 in story, but 4 better in overall gameplay (except for the leveling system, which is apart of RPG I guess.). I would say all the modern fallout games (maybe including or leaving out new vegas) are different games from the classic fallouts, a bit in story and leaving out RPG'ness, and a ton in gameplay.

A really really good classic game though :)
