Pretty awesome game. Well worth it!

A solemn, evocative examination of self-imposed isolation in the face of grief, Firewatch is a game that excellently blends peaceful exploration with complex human drama, served with a side of unhinged paranoia. It's a simple, sometimes intentionally boring experience that involves a lot of wandering and limited equipment interaction, but this means that even the most uninitiated player can approach it and enjoy it, so long as they have a basic ability to read a map and a compass. Even then, Firewatch practically rewards you for getting lost and taking in its landscape at your own pace, containing lots of branching radio dialogue, and several charming secrets that make this one of the best nature getaways in the indie gaming landscape.

So I've finally found the opportunity to play through this indie darling of 2016. And let me start by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A short but sweet one-and-done type of a game. Its brief playtime (4-5 hours) doesn't take anything away from the impact Firewatch has. I'd actually call it a strength, as anything significantly longer would potentially detract from the final experience by making it feel unnecesarily padded out and risk that the player would start to feel dissatisfied with the lack of deeper game mechanics.
Propelled forward by a strong story with incredible voice acting performances in the spotlight, Firewatch with its beautifully stylized wilderness really immerses you in its world and creates atmosphere that's simultaneously relaxing and cozy, yet unnerving and tense. The groundedness and mundanity not only making it way more relatable than the standard "go save the world" hero's journey you'd find in most games, but also significantly scarier than most survival horror games, despite Firewatch definitely not being what you'd call a horror game.
Go play it, preferrably with as little prior information about it as possible. It's touching and sweet, melancholic, yet funny, scary, yet beautiful, all in the span of 4 hours. It's a game that values your time and I appreciate that.
One small gripe. I'd love it if there was an option in the menu that would disable the player position showing on the map to make the experience even more analog and the navigation bit more challenging.

beautiful game, good storyline. i did find the ending a bit lame after all the build up, but that´s just my opinion. recommend to buy on sale

Game runs smooth. The story is interesting, the environment is well built, so it is pretty nice. I've noticed only one quirk that the writers missed - the "PC" term wasn't used back in the 80s and the 90s to describe socially unfavorable statements, so that's kind of out of place. I mean, the term still existed and was used back then, but in an entirely different context. Anyways, give it a try!

beautiful and enjoyable one and done game, ending was slightly underwhelming imo. i got this game for $3 and it kept me thoroughly entertained for a night. highly recommend. 7/10.
