I haven't confirmed it's related to GPU temperature, but seems likely. I also have all graphics settings on max. If anyone knows a fix I'd appreciate it!
The extra info is useful.
It could be related to the resolution I'm playing at on my 32:9 ultra wide.
Like everyone else, I'm trying to get a better gfx card, so I'll update if that ever happens.
Could be inadequate power supply as well.
It's kind of strange. My PC functions pretty much flawlessly, except in the case of three games:
- Firewatch
- Old Gods Rising
- Stories Untold (the FPS part in the third story)
It's always the same, suddenly the PC just shuts off (not even a BSOD) and then restarts after a few seconds. I guess that kind of points to the power supply. Strange that I haven't had this issue in any other game though since I play lots of different ones (Metro Exodus, Amnesia: Rebirth, Die Young & The Witness are a few of the games I played recently without any issues)...
My new PSU does not have a higher wattage than the previous, though, so the only thing that's changed is the reliability of the brand. The new one is Corsair.
The new 3080ti seems plenty capable of pushing enough pixels to my 32:9 panel, so I'll consider my issue now resolved as I was able to play Firewatch once more.
I still think the original issue needs looking into by the devs though.
***FIXED??***
***Okay.. I ran into that problem last night and spent about 5-6 hours trying to fix it. Gave up. Came back this morning to look again and for whatever reason I turned the graphics UP, to the highest. And it's working fine. It turns out that capping the frame rate fixed the temp issue instantly.
Also noticed this issue with the fans running high in another game, cant remember which. I also capped the fps in that one to 144 and the temp dropped instantly again from 80c+ to 50-60c.
Limiting frame rate fixed it.
