Did anyone else find this little easter egg?
I don't want to ruin the story for people so if you haven't beat the game already, don't read further.

Once you acquire the little beeping electronic compass thing (wave tracker, I believe it's called) it leads you to an Elk at some point in the game. The elk is dead and has a collar with numbers written on it around its neck. If you turn around, towards the direction the elk's head is pointing, there is some brush you can clear away, and then some more you have to chop away with an axe. If you head back there, you find a rusty lawn chair, a bunch of empty liquor bottles, a note from Ron to Dave or vice versa, and a little tape on top of it. The tape, once you listen to it, is Ron's version of the song you find in the abandoned outhouse near Hawk's Rest and the old cabin "Ol' Shoshone". After you pick it up, you'll pop it into your casette player and listen to it. It's Ron singing his own version of the song. You also read the note that tells you about Dave and how he got into a pretty bad bar fight and was sent to the hospital, and Delilah tells you she heard Ron moved to Alaska with his girlfriend.

I was just wondering if anyone found/didn't find this, because on my first playthrough I completely missed it. I did find the elk my first playthrough, but never found this little hidden area next to it.

Are there any other hidden areas with cool stuff like this I may have missed?

I also noticed something different in my 2nd playthough. Two things, actually. The turtle you can adopt was in a different location the 2nd time. Also, when you reach the Weebalo campground area, the area where you get the axe, on one of the stumps next to the clipboard there was some toilet paper and a trowel with poop stained onto it. When you pick it up you can call Delilah and have a conversation with her about you wanting to take it with you, and she says "I'm pretty sure those are used to bury poop." In my 2nd playthrough, neither the toilet paper or trowel were there. I searched all over. They weren't anywhere in the area at all, and I never had that conversation with her. I wonder how many things appear/disappear depending on which playthrough you're on, or if it's dependent on which conversation options you make with her earlier in the game.

I just finished my first playthrough and didn't see a turtle or a dead elk. I will have to keep an eye out during my second playthrough.

Where do I find a turtle?

YES!! We were hoping someone would find the area with Ol'Shoshone in it, I guess we hid that a little too well. :)

I don't think it's because the area is too well-hidden. I think it's because, once you are actually able to find the dead elk, it's later in the game when the area is full of smoke, so things are sort of harder to see. You also need the axe in order to get there, so if you're like me and saw the area earlier, you probably forgot all about it because you couldn't get in right away.

In all honesty, I only saw the trailer for Firewatch a week before it came out. As soon as I saw it, I experienced this primal NEED to have it immediately. Games like this are my absolute favorite. I have never wanted a game so badly before it came out, ever.

I need like 20+ hours of this content. I want the story to continue. I want there to be multiple endings based on the choices you made and conversation options you picked. I was a little disappointed with how the game ended, but I understand why it had to end that way.

EDIT: Also, does this mean I am the first person to post about the Ol' Shoshone easter egg? Do I get an award?!

I found the cassette, but I didn't see an option to play it. Gotta find that.

You play it automatically when you pick it up. You probably didn't notice because if you weren't listening closely to the words, you might just think it's another pretty guitar strumming background song. I only recognized it was Ol' Shoshone because the note said he found the song in an outhouse near Hawk's Rest. Then I pulled up the words and read the song along with him singing it.
