Stuck after the cave (Spoilers)

I just got out of the cave after getting locked in, and now I can't seem to find my way out. I found Brian's hidden cave with the comics and his folder and all that, but the only two paths I can see don't seem to lead anywhere.

right next to the comics is the exit, the stepping stone to jump down

What do you mean by 'don't seem to lead anywhere' ? You can easly climb/jump (cant quite remember) some rocks and get back on the track and go wherever you want.

hey I finshed the game so I can help mabybe? what you need to do is head north of the hideout and turn left by a rock with a large crack where you can hammer in a climbing peg (one of those you found at the hideout) then continue exploring. The key to Firewatch is not to read/watch anything about the game until after you've finished the game, better still after you've properly explored every inch of the forest, there are lots of interesting details hidden around the forest, just have fun exploring :)

1. go to brians hideout.
2. there you take the wooden sign.
3. under the wooden sign you find pistons.
4. this pistons you have to put in the crack just next to his hideout.
5. then you can attach the rope and climb down.

I didn't look at the sign, so I didn't find the pegs or whatever they were called.

You have to pick up the thingys laying under the big banner in the hideout.
