So I'm pretty far into the game and just got to the part where I came out of the cave and discovered the kid's hideout.

I went through all of the items I found there and picked up the key item I needed. I have the new mission to explore deeper into the cave, but now I'm stuck.

I can't figure out how to get back into the cave. I've walked around and around and around the area and can't refind the place where I came out. It looks like maybe there is another path I could take by dropping down a steep incline on the opposite side of the kid's hideout, but whenever I walk up to the edge, I don't get the context command to jump down.

So I am just stuck in this area and don't know how to get out. Help?

You are in the kid's hideout, check under the sign and there you find some useful tools.

tools and then go to the opposite side of where you entered the hideout and climb.. with said tools.

Yes, I already did that. I checked under the sign and found the bundle of pitons and picked them up. That triggered the mission to "explore deeper into the cave". Is there something else other than the pitons that I'm missing? I'll have to get it tomorrow.

I believe you re-enter through the same cave entrance you went in through initially.

I think your map should be able to lead you back to that?

Wrong direction, if you are facing the painting on the wall, go towards the right and find a different rock from the rest Rock with a crack in it you will then know what to do.
Underneath is everything explained so read it if you need it.
Find the rock with the crack in it to the right of the cave, and then will tell you to place the pitons inside of it, from there you can rappel down the rock face and find your way back to the cave.

these guys aren't giving very clear instructions.

1) enter the kid's hideout, 2) pick up the pitons 3) and most importantly, continue through to the other side of the kid's hideout (where there's a steep slope). a bit to your left is a rock with a horizontal crevice in it. 4) put the piton in the crevice (there will be a prompt) then hook up your rope to decend the slope.

Yeah, it sounds like I just kept overlooking the rock with the crevice in it. I went over there several times, but I kept looking down, since it looked like I could either jump down or repel. I'll give it a closer look tomorrow.
