I just found out about the DMCA to pewdiepie
Link for those who don't know: https://gamingcentral.in/pewdiepie-trouble-racial-slurs-game-developers-decide-take-action/

I will make sure to never buy any of your games, I've already unwishlisted both, and will tell everyone I know to do the same.

Feel free to lock this thread or leave it open for people to insult me, as I'm sure will happen. I don't care and I've already unsubscribed from the discussion.

These devs were bought by (and incorporated into) Valve. It looks like none of their games will be released anytime soon. They worked on Half-life Alyx though.

And nothing of value was lost.

The devs took a stance against racist remarks/"jokes" from that streamer. The method they used was questionable ("ownership" of streamed content is a sensitive topic, and instrumentalizing it in this way opens a can of worms that will lead to many misunderstandings), but the intention behind it was good. There shouldn't be a place for racism on Youtube, no matter how many followers someone has.

Sean then went on to say, “There is a bit of leeway you have to have with the internet when u wake up every day and make video games,” Vanaman wrote on Twitter. “There’s also a breaking point. He’s worse than a closeted racist: he’s a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry. I am sick of this child getting more and more chances to make money off of what we make.”

He also then said that they would. “be reaching out to folks much larger than us to cut him off from the content that has made him a millionaire.”
never watched Pie man , but I am tired of these drama queens with nanny-state ambitions, Sjw-HIT cancel culture, who get their impoverished ideology from the daily moronic twit sermons. Might surprise Sean that less than 2% of the population are on twitter, with only 1% of population being active users. From that 1% who do spend all day on twitter, equates to no jobs no money, most prob never played a game in their life.
To Sean (just cause your from Karck boyy dont be a langer)

If you support cancel culture, dont expect me to buy your games. Simple as that. Luckily they were bought by steam and now are just developers who can shut up and produce for once instead of being unproductive beings that spend 1/3 of the day rambling on the twitter instead of working.
mr producer teach those guys on how to make a game! Unless you're a dev yourself and now better. Being butthurt that some people stood against someone using racist slur is stupidity at its finest. i dont expect you to understand though. so DONT BUY THEIR GAMES, DONT POST ON THEIR THREADS. go chill with your PewDiePie fanbois

listen man you can do whatever you want but at the time pewdiepie was getting trashed on and it seems like the devs just didnt want to be involved in the whole thing. Did they make the wrong choice? yes, but should you boycott the devs for trying to distance themselves from a personality that was facing unprecitented backlash three years ago? personally i dont think so. They made a crappy decision that brought them controversy, same thing that pewdiepie did.

A white guy saying the n-word once can happen by mistake and not denote racism. We all have the n-word in our heads as the "really really bad word", and it's possible to get really angry and have it pop out accidentally in a situation like this. When we get mad sometimes, we exclaim words for no other reason than that they are bad and we are angry.

I'm NOT saying that makes it okay for him to have said it, but I AM saying that this can be an indicator of poor self-discipline and a bad temper, not necessarily racism. And abusing DMCA against him for this just throws fuel on the cancel-culture witch-hunting that is currently ruining people's lives for stupid reasons.

It's perfectly possible to use other slurs. If someone has that term so "ready" in their head that it pops out in such a situation, that's at least questionable. Not condemning, I agree with that, but a valid reason for concern.

The problem with that streamer in particular was that he already had a history of making racist "jokes" at that point, like making people write "Death to all Jews" and holding that into the camera. If you do such things 10 times, then drop a racial slur in a moment of anger, and _then_ claim that you don't harbor racist thoughts, that's not very convincing.

These repeated offenses were the reason why people like Vanaman got mad at him (and overreacted imho), or why Disney cut their ties with him at that point. Not the one single word, that was just the catalyst, the problem was well-known way before that. It seems that he has learned his lesson though, he stopped doing these things as far as I know (and apparently he did some anti-racism fundraising lately - I don't know the details because I have no interest in following him or his activities, but it seems worth mentioning).
