Thoroughfare Free Roam should include a camera and a full inventory.

The idea of the camera in Firewatch was so smart in many ways. Which makes me wonder why it wouldn't be part of the free roam experience. Knowing I could order prints would incentivize me further explore and capture more images. Certainly this could have been a design choice to only be part of the main story but it just seems like a missed opportunity for me.

Additionally I don't understand why free roam doesn't allow you to continue with all your items. In it's current state, the mode seems quite useless where it could be a great extension of the game/story.

I just completed the game a few hours ago and loaded my final auto save for the one achievement I missed. If you load that end game save then you can collect all odf your gear from the desk in the watchtower.

There are a few differences though other than missing the camera that you've already mentioned. The radio is replaced with the cassette player which allows you to pick from a number of songs The tracker also gets replaced with the default compass.

I tried using my last save to get the two achievements I missed but the last place the game puts you is on the other side of the cable car. Is there any way to get back across? I need to get the turtle and the cassette tape.

You were loading the save through Free Roam right. If so it should have started you in your own watch tower. The only achievement you won't be able to get in Free Roam is Shutterbug due to not having the camera.

You can find the tracker in a supply box, if you search around, and then once you have it you can use it for the collectables (tapes)
