It sets my GPU on fire
Firewatch is literally the hottest game I have played. GPU temps hits 80 degrees on a very consistent basis. I play multiple triple A titles and most stay around 50 -60. Not to mention, some massive frame rate dips on a relatively undemanding graphics engine.

Any solutions to it?

Odd.

I just only bought the game.
Gave it a run. GPU stays below 50 C and below 50 % usage (GTX 1070, Win10Pro x64, 32GB RAM, i7 5820k)

Games don't affect all systems the same way. This is a common issue brought up on reddit and steam too. Considering that this game is not a long game (even after I played through 2 runs), it is not too big of an issue. Good thing my card runs very quiet even at 100% fans. Definitely an issue for players with cheaper cooling solutions.
Yeah I've put a lot of effort in building my system as well, not much to hear at 100% load.
But still ... :)

There's really nothing to worry about. GPU's (and CPU's for that matter) are designed to operate MUCH hotter than most people think they can, well over 100c, believe it or not. Depending on demands GPU load temps of 70-90c are perfectly normal.

it's possible that your fan may not be spinning up fast enough while playing Firewatch for some reason, which might be another explanation for the higher than average temps you are seeing. Use a monitoring program to watch the temps and fan speeds. Make sure the drivers are up to date and set correctly. you can use a program like afterburner to raise the fan speed for testing purposes, or just to compensate if it makes you feel better, but I really wouldn't worry. the hardware will protect itself if it really gets too hot. (or at least, it should)

Yeah, I am not worried. I just don't like it. Also, for longevity, it is best it runs at a normal temperature. The high temps is not a bad thing in itself, but it is a sign that something is off (game or system issue etc).

Fans are working perfectly fine. In fact, I am using a more aggressive fan curve over the stock settings.

Go do a quick google search to educate yourself. There are users with a 1080ti who experience this issue too.

I can't tell if I should be happy or not that I'm not the only one experiencing the fps drops and heat...

I think it's how the game uses resources.

Personally I can play the witcher 3 just fine at high settings at 60fps, it's a really optimized game, but if I play it too much my system fans too start spinning faster.

Then there's payday 2 which is an unoptimized mess, it's not easy playing at high settings without turning most of the stuff lower and still have drops, and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crashes.

My system is AMD though, there's also the reputation thing. Though, I had performance drops while using crimson relive, so I advise you to try and turn of shadow play or things like gpu flushing and that sort of stuff, it can help you like it helped me.

The last time this happened to me (not in this game) I opened the case and cleaned the dust off the fan. Worked miracles.

Oh nice! My rig is a new one though. Bought it in July last year. Anyway it only happens for this game and I'm done playing it already. Hopefully this helps someone else!

Nah, not at all. You most likely just have vsync disabled is all.

Nah, not at all. Don't assume. I enabled V-sync.

I said "most likely". Do you even know what the word "assume" means? because you're doing it right now.

Yep, you assumed it was most likely the case.
